THE MECHANIX

About Me

THE MECHANIX will “Fix your soul with rock ‘n’ roll.” Sure they play some classic rock and blues, but with a good handful of ORIGINALS in each set, THE MECHANIX ain’t no ordinary cover band. Check out our new tunes and join the fun. Watch for new original tunes on-line soon!
Although some members of The Mechanix have played together back in the 60’s and 70’s, this band started in the early 80's and played for a number of years in Central New York. In ’88, the band ended when job transfers and promotions moved players away from the Utica area.
A few years ago, the band started back up, getting together for the fun of playing music.
John DePoalo - guitar, most vocals, also the songwriter of the group. The only band member with experience playing in New York City rock clubs, John now lives up a bit north of Utica, NY. Ask him about his ’55 Merc.
Jay Piersanti - rhythm guitar, “he knows all the chords.” Jay is from Hamburg, and lives there now. He and Vince grew up and played gigs together in the '60's.
Wayne Kolanko - piano, organ, some vocals. Originally from the Utica area, Wayne lives near Albany, NY. He and Vince have known each other, and started playing music together, since the early 70's. Years ago, Wayne played in the Utica area band "Nightwatch"
Shawn Hawley - bass, violin. Shawn is an experienced music teacher in the Utica City Schools. Be ready for some beautiful sounds when he gets out his violin. Shawn lives in Utica.
Vince Sperrazza - drums. He’s been playing drums since shortly after the earth cooled, but would still like to take lessons from his oldest son. Vince is from Hamburg. Find out about his drum repair business below, in the Friends, at VS Custom Drums.
John Penree - bass emeritis. John is a full time officer in the US Army, 10th Mountain Division. John has served with distinction in both Afganistan and Iraq. A founding member of the Mechanix, John joins in whenever his schedule permits.

Influences: Influences? This is a band where most of the members were teenagers when The Beatles appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show, and they remember when Brian Jones was in the Rolling Stones.

THE MECHANIX influence runs from the early rockers like Chuck Berry to classic rock legends from The Beatles and The Band to The Rolling Stones and ZZ Top. Guitarist John DePoalo writes tunes that reflect the best of the classic rock sound.

Classic Rock? Play it...Hell, we LIVED IT!!!!!!!!

THE MECHANIX "Early Mornin' Blues" played recently on Debbie Sims' blues hour on radio WBFO in Buffalo, NY. She referred to us as "a group with over 200 years experience." But we ain't old...
