"C Boogie†nee Je’von Cory Adams, was born and raised in Bridgeport, the largest city in Connecticut, known to many as “the Park Cityâ€. Like other urban centers in Connecticut, Bridgeport fared less well during the deindustrialization of the United States in the 1970s and 1980s. Unemployment rose, crime soared, and the city became known for a large drug problem and for having an exploding AIDS rate. Many former-industrial sites within the city were discovered to be heavily-polluted, leaving the city with extensive environmental costs and damage. Other sites were simply abandoned and left to burn down, leaving some areas of the city resembling ghost towns. It was in this atmosphere that C Boogie began a love affair with the culture of hip hop, listening to groups growing up like UTFO the FATBOYS, BDP (Boogie Down Productions), and PUBLIC ENEMY. “My hip hop career started out mostly by writing poems and having people really enjoying what I wrote. My biggest influences were groups like A Tribe Called Quest , and De La Soul, which inspired me to take my poetry and develop my style of rhyming.â€C Boogie began his career as an MC in the group, Three-Fold, performing mostly in the Bridgeport area, where they opened for Digable Planets at the University of Connecticut.A believer in all things hip hop, C Boogie used his dancing skills to earn him a spot on performing in videos for Whitney Houston, Will Smith, Little Louie Vega, and landed an appearance in Spike Lee’s “The 25th Hour". Soon thereafter he begun to teach dance and perform internationally in countries like Japan, South Korea, London and the Netherlands. But the art of rhyming called to him again and he formed a new group, TriStateofMind with MCs AM Sunshine and Regg Lo. The trio began putting hard work into making demos and working the local club scene. TriStateOfMind opened up for groups like Gargantua Soul at Toads Place in New Haven, performed at the Lyricist Lounge at the Nuyorican Soul Café, in Brooklyn, NY, the Nkiru Center run and owned by Black Star ( Mos Def & Talib Kweli), and the Soul Café in mid town Manhattan.Feeling a need to express himself, C Boogie separated from TriStateOfMind, and embarked on a solo career. With the help Spitkickers Inc. , a hip-hop company run by De La Soul and other affiliates, he began to polish and mature not only his lyrics, but also his stage presence. With the likes of Kanye West, Talib Kweli, Jean Grae, MF Doom and others who joined Spitkicker, Cboogie improved amongst his peers in the ever growing hip-hop community. His affiliation with Spitkicker led to some opening slots for Slum Village and Baatin of Slum Village’s solo performances. In 2005, C Boogie signed a record deal with the independent label Exotic Recordings. He’s been busy performing, opening for Jaguar Wright, Lady Bug Meccaof Digable Planets, John Legend and a performance at the CMJ Music Conference in New York. He is currently recording his debut album “The Benefactor†due out early next year.
