About Me

"a song for every thought" "a song for every reason" "a song for every emotion" "a singer of all seasons" “Her name is Yvette Ko’Koa and she’s a species of rare talent pure jazz and soul!” Miss Ko’Koa was born in New York City. Her first singing experience began at the tender age of eight, in the Greater Eternal Baptist Church Youth Choir. When the choir musician heard Yvette sing her first note, he encouraged her to lead songs and direct the choir as well. He raved that Miss Ko’Koa was a “Natural!” Miss Ko’Koa attended Julia Richman High School where she majored in Vocal Music with the Talent Unlimited Chorus and the All City Chorus. Performances would take place all over the tri-state area, from Carnegie Hall to the Waldorf Astoria. Throughout her Junior High and High school years, Miss Ko’Koa was always performing at different functions within the community; graduation exercises, fashion shows, weddings, church recitals, etc. You name it, Miss Ko’Koa was there! Miss Ko’Koa’s professional experiences include performing the leading role of “Sister Carrie” in the Longest running Off-Broadway play in New York City: Mama I Want To Sing. She has performed with famous recording artists such as Whitney Houston, Jennifer Holiday, Cuba Gooding And The Main Ingredient Experience, The Mighty Sparrow, and Byron Lee And The Dragoneers. Miss Ko’Koa also recorded for the Major Movie Soundtrack; “Something Wild” (Orion Pictures). She recorded the 12” Hit Singles; “Makes Me Holler” with Project X Records, and “Peaceful Journey” with Swank Records. She performed with the Motown Girl Group, The Marvelettes. Miss Ko’Koa also performed in musicals such as; Purlie, South Pacific, Ain’t Nobody’s Bizness If I Do, and Just Call His Name by Positive Entertainment Productions. Yvette Ko’Koa also gave Up and Close intimate performances at various New York super clubs such as; The Village Gate, Café Wha?, Nells, La Barbat, The Sugar Shack, Lola’s, Honeysuckles West, Wilson’s, Sylvia’s, The China Club, Don’t Tell Mamma, Mo’bays, Baton Rouge, and Lenox Lounge.
