About Me
Among the young artists today, Tara Tambunting is a definite standout. She is the daughter of Joselito and lawyer Victoria Tambunting. A talented musician who also happens to be an actor and host, Tara is very much grounded.A new fixture on Manila’s social scene, she is often seen alongside her equally chic socialite grand-aunt who also happens to be one of her biggest fans, Tereret Tambunting-Liboro. What sets her apart from many of today’s singers is that, being the well-educated girl that she is, she also writes the lyric to her songs and sometimes even sets the words to her own music. At the age of 17, she is an experienced performer and has already performed for none other than Her Excellency Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo at a private function, managing to make brand of classic rock appealing to a crowd who wouldn’t normally prefer that musical style. With a seemingly inborn talent for performing, it only seemed natural for her to be in the musical arena. Last Oct. 27 2005, she had her first major concert (tickets to which were sold out, by the way), at The Music Museum in Greenhills entitled, “Tara: Its My Life†and presented by none other than Manila’s premier architect Gerry Contreras. Her guests were famous Filipino acts: Ogie Alcasid, Jay-R, and SugarFree. The concert was big and widely publicized (by means of a very visible Edsa billboard and several radio plugs). It was a first step to launch her career and to pay tribute to her biggest musical influences such as Led Zeppelin, Nirvana, Aerosmith, and etc.The concert was a major success under the direction of GB Sampedro and the musical direction of Butch Miraflor. The production was handled by Starmedia, spearheaded by Ana Puno, sponsors included Disco International, Multimed Industries, Practicka Philippines, Lanero Jewellers, Fastlink handlers and Brokerage corp. and Fabuloso Entertainment; with Magic 89.9, Joey 92.3 and 103.5 K-Lite as the show’s official radio partners.Proceeds from the show were donated to the Bantay Bata Foundation, a cause that Tara feels strongly about. One thing’s for sure, we’ll be seeing and hearing a lot more from Tara Tambunting in the near future.*At present, Tara is working on songs for her long-awaited debut album. The reason for its' delay she says, is because 'I don't want to put out anything mediocre. I want my songs to express who I really am. Everything has to be PERFECT.' Spoken in the words of a true rockstar.-excerpts from Manila Standard (A little night music by Isah V. Red)
