About Me

Out of Australia, a literary journal publishing short fiction, poetry, comic art, and spoken word from around the world.
Every issue of Going Down Swinging (GDS) features a book plus a CD of spoken word. When the mood strikes and the funding allows, special issues feature double CDs, hard covers, colour comics sections, and other printable delights.
GDS publishes two issues a year - in Spring/Summer and in Autumn/Winter.

Featuring poetry, fiction, comic art, a spoken word CD, plus a graphic novella by Jo Waite. Cover art by Stephen Ives.

Influences: All the amazing! astounding! death defying! wordsmiths and picturesmiths and audiosmiths who've graced GDS' pages and kissed GDS' (ahem) CDs over the last 28something years.

All the small presses and literary magazines who keep on pressing and printing and poking the butts of the big publishing houses. The future will be small and local. Support the independent press.

Now calling for book submissions for No.29
Submissions are now open for our 29th issue, due for release Nov/Dec 2009. This time around, we are only accepting submissions for the book - short fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and comic art. The issue will feature a special live CD recorded at Overload Poetry Festival. More on that, later. For now, head to www.goingdownswinging.org.au for details on how to send us your work. Submissions for No.29 have been extended to 30th June 2009.

Taking the virtual launch thing one extra cross-continental step, in February Ian Ferrier and the Festival Voix d’Amériques launched No.27 at the Casa del Popolo in Montreal. Here are a few pictures:
