Greetings in the name of The Most High JAH!I go by the name 'KaiZen' which loosely translated means 'continuos improvement' in Japanese.I am half Jamaican and half Guyanese but African in the eyes of I and I. I have been a lyricist since 1999 and a producer since 2003. My beats are made using an old PC, Cubase SX (with default plug-ins) and many samples but I can also use Reason 2 and outboard studio equipment.I have over 6 years of youth work experience ranging from after-school club playworker to freelance workshop leader in the field of lyric writing and music production.The purpose of my music is to positively influence and change common perceptions through the awakening of dormant minds.For me, music is more than just a way of gaining short term rewards and notoriety from those that know not of what life is truely about. Music is about spreading a message and the message that I choose to spread is one of peace, love, African spirituality and overstanding.My lyrics reflect my upbringing as an African detatched from his homeland, a Rasta yout' and, as a westerner living in the belly of the beast.My compostions reflect my main musical influence 'Hip Hop' as well as the music of my family: Reggae, Roots, Soul, Rare Groove and Jazz. I am learning to play the guitar and the keyboard in the hope of bringing a more natural vibe to my music.I have been part of a 'crew' twice and both experiences taught me the importance of being focused and confident in my own abilities and qualities. I used to battle rappers in the past and have performed at The Jump Off, Lyric Pad, Battlescars and the 8 Mile Mc Championship.
