Philip D'Agostino

About Me

I am an electric/upright bassist from the Wissahickon section of Northwest Philadelphia. I play a few other instruments as well, with less proficiency of course ;) I recently completed a full length instrumental record entitled "Music From a Sinking Ship", which be be released on June 6, 2009 at Miles and Maggie Fest in Fleetwood, PA. I currently perform with several acts, including but not limited to Wissahickon Chicken Shack, Hezekiah Jones, papertrees, The Spinning Leaves, Adrien Reju, Joshua Park, David Janes, Suzie Brown, etc. I am available for recording sessions, randoms, one offs, fill ins, etc. I teach bass and guitar at Keswick Music Works in Glenside, PA and teach private lessons as well. You can purchase my CD by clicking on the icon below.
Here are a few self aggrandizing press clippings if you're interested:
"Music From A Sinking Ship is a brilliantly crafted album with hints of so many different styles and genres of music that make this album so enjoyable to listen to. The album is all instrumental but the array of different instruments used definitely adds different voices and layers to the songs. This album is a great display of Philip D'Agostino's musicianship and his ability to play a seemingly endless list of instruments. Also, it's nice to see other musicians lending their skills to this album. All in all, love the album and I listen to it often. Yes, that means you should definitely get yourself a copy."
~Review from foreverlostinasong.com
"The musician to watch is Philip D'Agostino. He has become the bass player for the Wissahickon Chicken Shack, Adrien Reju, and a few other bands. One wonders how he keeps his schedule straight. He blends into every project and also has some solo instrumental material. He is rock, jazz, bluegrass and other styles all in one musician. And yet, he doesn't come off as a music snob. He is always friendly and never any trouble."
~David W. Wannop; Ticket Entertainment, Montgomery Newspapers
"Upright bassist Phil D'Agostino holds down the rhythm section with his doghouse-style slaps and plucks. While D'Agostino's methods are perfectly in sync with the Shack's bluegrass tendencies, his training and experience have led him to lay out the low end in several musical settings from jazz and funk to Indian and experimental."
