About Me

about panaYota: panaYota is a greek-born human. she spends her time playing and writing music, reading, listening, sitting in silence, practicing yoga, cooking, walking, watching, sleeping, and other things, depending on the circumstances, the season, the surroundings, the mood, the moon, and other things. she especially likes to be with her family in boston and greece. she likes to travel, to learn, to share, and to feel how it is to be a living human being. she plans to have no plans. by the way, all this is subject to change... :-)
about the "B arely R eal" album: it is original music based on verse. among the poets whose inspiring works have been set to music are emily dickinson, theodore roethke, robert creeley, jack kerouac, steven crane, and j. rumi -translated in english by coleman barks. there is also an arrangement of a hanns eisler piece, text by bertold brecht. the album was recorded, mixed, and mastered by peter kontrimas at the PBS studios, and the graphic design was realized by artist vangelis skritzovalis. the "Barely Real" music is usually performed by my jazz septet.
about my jazz trio: it consists of Lefteris Kordis on piano and various bass players. this group has appeared at the beehive restaurant in boston, ma, the fireplace restaurant in brookline, ma, the Lily Pad gallery and the OM restaurant in cambridge, ma, and lots of other venues in the greater new england area.
panayota is a member of two greek ensembles:
a) the greek music ensemble (GME): the GME mainly performs in recital halls in the greater new england area. we often collaborate with the greek institute located in cambridge, ma, and our concerts usually have a theme. we sometimes collaborate with famous greek artists who tour the US and have a big audience here in boston. the director of the ensemble is panos liaropoulos.
b) the orfeas band: with this band we do dances, festivals, weddings, private parties, and numerous other occasions. we sometimes do some traveling together, like for example, last May we were invited to dallas, tx, to perform at a big dance. lots of fun!
