CLEAR DEFINITION Who or What is FILIPINO? I am Filipino American, born in Filipino America. Family is first, I learned. Respect grandma, grandpa, mom, and dad. Meet relatives I never knew I had. Apple of my parents' eye. When they bragged, I wished I would die. Parties, dancing, and food. These are all the parts of the Filipino mood. Act respectable, work hard, behave yourself. Being Filipino is difficult at best. But now that I'm older, being Filipino is much colder. Can we get a little solidarity? Competition within makes me wary. Am I revolution, militant, politically conscious? The answer to that question, I find is always absent. Trapped between the Star Spangled Banner and Bayang Migiliw leaves me confused. Being born Filipino I can't refuse. Are you a lawyer, doctor, or mathmetician? Nope, I'm just a Filipino American Veteran, who served my parents' adopted nation. Today, I've attended college to increase my cultural knowledge. In this institutional setting I've learned Filipinos are strong, intelligent, and even entertaining. However, when it comes to defining Filipino culture, or is it Pilipino culture? You see, there is no clear definition. Now that you've heard my dilemma. Maybe you can tell me who or what is Filipino/ Filipina. Cuz all I know is that I am a Filipino American, who doesn't have a clear definition. By My older brother
