**Annalise Friend (aka Slapsista) is a passionate performer and teacher of movement, percussion, body percussion and spoken word/mc-ing, often simultaneously**
SLAPSISTA PERFORMS
Annalise developed a unique style of performance that draws together body percussion grooves and moves, soulful spoken word, percussive breaks and moving expression. She has performed at many Australian festivals, alongside Michael Franti and Spearhead, at Sydney poetry slams, and at a whole lotta community gigs.
Annalise has played drums or slapped with many groups and body percussion ensembles (that she co-founded), such as the Slapsista trio, Greg Sheehan and the Hands of She and Pulse.
Annalise has improvised - whatever comes! - a moving-poetic-narrative-visceral-unleashing with many adventurers, often as "Slapsista and Friends."
SLAPSISTA TEACHES
Annalise has been teaching Energy Dance, Percussion and Body Percussion to folks of all ages and abilities since 2000, including artists, teachers, TAFE, Uni, youth centre, school, after school, workplace and community classes.
SLAPSISTA WRITES
Annalise has also completed a Bachelor of Creative Arts-Bachelor of Arts (Hons), majoring in Creative Writing and English Literatures. She is currently undertaking a PhD in Performing Identity in Global Hip Hop, following on from an Honours Thesis on Pacific Hip Hop.
She is a keen creator and reader of a broad range of writing. Please see the blog entries above for some of her writing: 'Hu' - a poetic series inspired by divine names - and autobiographical short stories such as "When Franti Prayed I suffered."

OH AND ... HIP HOP DUENDE
Slapsista collaborates with flamenco percussionist Claudia Chambers as Hip Hop Duende. They layer rhymes against cajon rhythms with some slapdance and stompin' men's flamenco boots in the passionate mix.
Their interactive performances and workshops for schools, workplaces, festivals and more are a spirited and infectious celebration of women in rhythm!
