About Me

THE LEGENDARY PILGRIM JUBILEES
"The spiritual, to be sure, goes a little beyond most religious music forums. Possibly the answer lies in its rhythmic contagion, for not only does it comfort the “afflicted,” it “afflicts” the comfortable, the self-sufficient and self-satisfied.
The nationally famous Pilgrim Jubilee Singers, who are rapidly capturing the respect, affection and admiration of audiences throughout America, are giving new dimensions to religious music in general, and the spiritual specifically… Their songs, their message - great timeless - and is dedicated to the poor, the meek, the rich, the weak, the burden, the self-sufficient, the unbelievers, the holy and sanctified. It is a message of the power and the glory of Christian character and conduct, a living testament of faith, hope and charity (love). " - D. LaIsac (1960)
"Singers are often described as “golden voiced.” Few will deny that the Pilgrim Jubilee Singers possess God-given voices generously wrapped in gold and capable of producing music as sparkling as a treasured, loving chalice polished to gleaming perfection.
Widely known as exponents of Gospel music of unexcelled qualities, the Pilgrim Jubilee Singers have sung their way to a peak of popularity. Never content with simply singing, this dedicated group of artists brings to the music a rare blend of excitement and rousing reassurance which never fails to stir their listeners and move them into an experience crammed with spiritual awareness. Their awareness communicates itself, indeed converts the individual, who listens in rapt silence in the quiet of his home." - Richard Simpson

JOINING MALACO RECORDING
"After recording with various recording companies, the Pilgrim Jubilees signed with Malaco
in 1987, and released Gospel Roots which immediately hit the top 40 of Billboard Magazine's Gospel Albums Chart. Their second Malaco project, 1988's Back to Basics, reached the top 25 on Billoboard's chart.
Gospel - The Jubes
Family Affair, released on Malaco in 1991, hit the top 20 in both on Billboard and Cashbox and was nominated for gospel's coveted Stellar Award. I'm Getting Better All the Time earned extensive nationwide airplay in 1991 and became a favorite of gospel fans. In 1994, The Jubes released In Revival, a greatest hits album which was recorded live in their hometown of Houston, Mississippi. The charted disc became one of the top-selling gospel albums of any era." - Malaco

IN MEMORY OF:

"In 1934, in Houston, Mississippi, Elgie Graham and Willie Johnson formed a gospel duet. A dozen years later, in 1946, the group added new members (brother) Theophilles Graham, Monroe Hatchett and Leonard Brownlee- and the early Pilgrim Jubilees were born. This group flourished until about 1950, when the Grahams moved away to Chicago. But Elgie Graham soon revived and reorganized the group, signing on Major Roberson, Kenneth Madden and his brothers, Cleve and Clay Graham, as members.
In 1955 Elgie retired from the group, but he encouraged the other members to continue singing God's praises. Other than the 1960s departure of Kenneth Madden, and the 1970 arrival of Ben Chandler, the core group remains the same now." - Malaco
