About Me

Arthur is a musician, bartender, computer programmer living in Berlin since 1988. He plays improvised music since 2002 with different groupings. beginning: When he traveled to tokyo to visit his very special friends keiko , morishige and imre, morishige (almost secretly!) organized a concert at a gallery called "la deco" for the three of them. Luckely imre gave him a hint, and he brought his beat up electric guitar (which wasn't even his, but borrowed from somebody he lost the adress of) to tokyo. Arthur has very fond memories of that concert. For example, the daughter of a woman imre and he had just met an evening before at a bar near nakano station came and brought a macha cake. But more special was for him ofcourse the introduction he got by keiko and morishige into the world of improvised music.
"I will never make money with music, atleast not the kind of money i would call making money. So I am one of the very lucky ones that can smile and wonder about each achievement he makes and cherrish every person I have a chance of playing with. That doesn't mean i have no ambitions, oh no! It just means I don't have to worrie!"
They continued to do some concerts in Berlin 2 years later when both keiko and morishige came to berlin for the second time. They performed as a quartett together with Jacob Kirkegaard . One place they performed was l a b o r s o n o r . laborsonor is a series of concerts, performances and video organized once or twice a month by Andrea Neumann, Christian Kesten, Arthur Rother, Nicolas Galeazzi and Fernanda Farah in in a small venue called KuLe in the center of Berlin. The person who booked them for that night was non other than Nicholas Bussmann . That night he asked Arthur to help them out at laborsonor, and since then he is helping out (!), doing the booking, beeing the bartender, tendering the echtzeitmusik site and cleaning the place when everybody went home. Arthur is a very very lucky man to have gotten this job. Not that it brings home any money, but he is meeting some great performers there and works together with the best, most interesting and very kind people in berlin.
With percussionist Marcelo Aguirre , Arthur began his first berlin based improvisation duo. They have rehearsed many times with some beautiful results. Unfortunately they never gotten the chance to show this yet to a wider audience , but what hasen't happened can still happen. (I still have a pile of CD's i borrowed from you, Marcelo...I need to give them back!)
Together with Chris Abrahams (dx-7) , Andrea Ermke (samples) and Marcello Silvio Busato (drums, piano, guitar) they formed the band SINK.In this grouping, music started finally to make sense for Arthur. Unfortunately since Chris is living in Australia, they don't have a lot of opportunity to do live concerts. But Chris is visiting Berlin every year for a couple of month and this gives the chance to play.
