NICK SOUTHGATE, THE WIRE MAGAZINE - "Bob Dylan is not the only artist on a neverending tour: Damo Szuki picks up a different outfit at every stop, and in March 2004 at London's Bull & Gate, he hooked up with Now, who had already been forging their own melange of Krautrock, synth pop and lo-fi for a few years. The result is an explosive set that holds well against anything Suzuki recorded in or outside of Can. . .The album creeps into life as Damo's guttural whispers and stutters get "Knopp Off" into gear. The group knock themselves into shape one rimshot and wah-snag at a time until the piece rolls itself into a shuddering, funky whole. "Metro Girl" has a tinny hi-hat tempo, swaying with low-slung bass and mangled disco-zaps from the keyboard. "One And One Equal One" is another honourable entry in 'the short history of poor mathematics in rock' and is also a hypnotic slice of motorik fuzz to boot. Its followed up by the one downbeat moment on the album, "Acid Test", a slow paced fragmentary lament. The closing workout is the magnificent "The Zero Game", an ARP synth-loop fued bounce boogie with a two-note guitar part that Michael Karoli would have been proud of. In the latter stages it features that rarest and most precious of things - some psych trumpet playing that adds a glorious spray of Technicolor energy not heard since The Beatles' far-out excursion "Its All Too Much".

L'album, più precisamente, è stato registrato durante la lunga serie di concerti che lo stesso Damo Suzuki ha inanellato nel corso del 2004 dando vita all'amalgama di cinque jams piuttosto dilatate di avant rock puro freeform che beneficiano dello stato di grazia dei Now, nell'occasione impegnati a fornire al materiale la giusta commistione di elettronica incalzante, sfumature krautrock, ambientazioni post rock ed alcune tinte di funky serioso e sonorità no wave. Damo Suzuki appare ispiratissimo e attraversa il sentiero prolungato idealmente creato dai cinque brani, facendo ricorso al suo stile inconfondibile.
Non molti albums di performances registrate dal vivo riescono a guadagnarsi ancora l'attenzione della critica e del pubblico dopo il passaggio temporale di circa tre anni. The London Evening News rappresenta, per converso, una di quelle rare occasioni.
Nel mese di Marzo 2004 Damo Suzuki & Now sono stati capaci di esibirsi in uno show affascinante per il pubblico, nel quale l'intero set di pezzi sembrava scivolare da una cresta musicale all'altra; per averne un'idea generale sarà sufficiente prestare l'orecchio alle acclamazioni assordanti del pubblico al termine dell'album.
Spesso si è puntata l'attenzione su artisti quali Bruce Springsteen o Bob Dylan per definire il percorso di musicisti in cammino artistico incessante. Damo Suzuki è stato capace non meno di aggiungere un nuovo tassello al suo complesso mosaico dopo ogni ripartenza artistica, e nel Marzo del 2004 presso il Bull & Gate di Londra ha dato corpo ad una performance esplosiva che tiene testa al passaggio impietoso del tempo, proponendo materiale realmente all'altezza delle migliori produzioni elaborate durante la sua permanenza negli storici Can a tratti procedendo ben oltre.
L'album ripercorre sinuoso la vita e la carriera di Damo, che come per ogni grande artista costituiscono un unicum temporale, attraverso i sussurri gutturali e discontinui sciorinati in Knopp Off. La band si supera forgiando sonorità nodose ed articolate volutamente prolungate, almeno sino a quando il brano non defluisce in un tema interamente funky da pelle d'oca.
Per Metro Girl la scelta ricade su una vibrante e cadenzata ritmica dettata dall'hi-hat di Giles Narang, oscillando attraverso le manipolazioni laceranti del suono delle tastiere e le sfrenate linee del basso di Peter Lowis.
Altra ragguardevole vetta dell'album appare One And One Equal One, una sorta di breve digressione storica sul ruolo della matematica e della logica nel mondo del rock ma soprattutto disorientante nuvola di pulviscolo sonoro.
Il pezzo è seguito con decisione da uno degli stralci più belli per scelta ritmica dell'intero album, Acid Test, una sorta di lento ed irregolare lamento pieno di cadenze.
La soluzione prescelta per la chiusura ha il nome dell'eccellente The Zero Game, brano costruito su un geniale loop sintetizzato d'arpa fuso ad un incalzante boogie strutturato attorno a due sole note della chitarra dell'ottimo Justin Paton.
