ABOUT US:
Amherst is a Norwegian acoustic group focusing on the lyrics of 19th century poet Emily Dickinson. Through their music Amherst invites the listeners into the versatile poetic world of Emily Dickinson, where themes like life, death, eternity and nature are playing important parts. Being primarily inspired by the content of Dickinson's poems, the music is not easily defined in a specific genre. Nevertheless, several of the musicians have backgrounds from jazz and improvised music, and Amherst attends a certain "jazzy" sound. But other musical influences to be mentioned are folk music, pop ballads and classical music.
A LIGHT EXISTS IN SPRING (MULTIMEDIA CONCERT) INFO:
"A Light Exists in Spring" is a merging of music, literature and film. In this project we collaborate with the Norwegian author Wenche-Britt Hagabakken, who in 2006 published the novel "Zürich", which features Emily Dickinson as a central character. Hagabakken contributes by reading her own text, written for this project, as well as her own Norwegian transalations of Dickinson's "Master Letters". The concert also features Morten Stoltz Vernegg, who does live video mixing inspired by Dickinson’s poetry and the music of Amherst. It is our aim to present a genuinely "live" concert experience, and an introduction to the poet Emily Dickinson from a new and different angle, by including other art forms alongside the music. "A Light Exists in Spring" was played for the first time in November 2008, and at The Norwegian Festival of Literature in 2009 - some live footage is displayed below.
