Welcome to the MySpace home of Acentos, a Bronx-based organization founded in 2003 and dedicated to the development, discussion, dissemination, and teaching of poetry and literature by Latino/a writers in New York and beyond. We have a number of programs that serve both emerging and established writers of Latino descent nationwide, as well as a weekly multicultural writers' workshop for poets at all skill levels.
The Acentos Bronx Poetry Showcase is a reading series, now in its sixth year, showcasing nationally recognized Latino/a writers alongside emerging voices in a setting that stimulates open dialogue and an increased sense of community. The series, currently on hiatus, will be restarting at a new home in the South Bronx within the next few weeks. Updates in this space to come.
The Acentos Writers' Workshop was established with the purpose of nurturing the newer voices in the poetry community. With writers from across several genres donating their time, the workshop encourages newer writers to hone their craft, establish and create community, and perform their work in front of growing audiences. The workshop accepts writers of all backgrounds and skill levels to foster growth and maximize their full potential as writers.
THE ACENTOS REVIEW publishes poetry, fiction, memoir, interviews, translations, and artwork by emerging and established Latino/a writers and artists four times a year. The Latin@ community is international and so, too, do we pledge to represent that international community. We welcome submissions in English, Spanish, a combination of the two, as well as the use of indigenous languages.

We are currently seeking submissions of poetry, fiction, nonfiction, reviews, interviews, and translation. Submissions guidelines available at the Review: http://www.acentosreview.com/Submission_Guidelines.html .
The debate may rage forever as to who or what constitutes Latin@ art. Here, there is no such identity crisis. We are already here, writing the histories of our neighborhoods, following the traditions of our ancestors, as well as the poetic traditions that came before us. To paraphrase Baldwin, the poet's task as historian is to keep the story new, even when the telling is costly. This is the aesthetic we foster at Acentos. It is always about the word, the work, and it all begins here.
