Playing my Conklin custom neck-through-the-body 36 fret bass at Bamboo Bernies 8/16/2008
Proficient in all styles of playing, George began his bass playing odyssey back in 1987 with the purchase of his first bass, a hot pink Cort Titan. Originally an 80's metal headbanger, George was influenced by such players as Steve Harris and Billy Sheehan. Those influences led to the bass riffs in original recordings by the bands Taz and In 'N' Out.
2 albums worth of original recordings later, the 80's metal scene disappeared and George moved on to Imposter, a top-40 variety act. It was here that George's ability improved dramatically. With a foundation laid in hard rock and heavy metal, George learned to groove and funk. The pocket took on a new meaning and the world of funk and slap/pop bass opened up. this was the time George also began playing a 5 string bass.
In 1999, George graduated with a DDS from the University of Maryland Dental School, which led to a move to western Maryland and a new band, Wildfire. It was in Wildfire that George came across the Conklin GT-7 and a new realm opened up before him. The expanded range of the GT-7 opened up a new realm of bass playing.
In 2001 George co-founded Hellcat, an 80's metal cover band that harkened back to his founding roots. Hellcat disolved and George joined Alive-n-Kickin' in October 2002 and has been rocking to the best of the 80's hard rock and heavy metal since.
George lives in Dentsville, Maryland with his wife Shannon, sons Shane (age 5) and Nico (age 2), and a host of cute, cuddly critters (Codo, Podo, Sandie, Bugs, and Nibbles). In addition to pursuing continual studies and advancements in the field of cutting-edge dentistry, George is constantly expanding on his knowledge of music theory and imrpovisation. George is avaiable for fill-in work, studio sessions, and private lessons for beginner and intermediate players and may be contacted through this page. He is also working on a chord manual for the 7 string bass which he hopes to have published in the near future.
