Teresa plays bass! It all began when...Her musical journey began at an early age. Growing up in Rome with its history and culture, she was surrounded by music; her father worked as a sound engineer and her mother as a dancer in theatre. At seven, Teresa picked up her first guitar and taught herself. At sixteen, Teresa packed her bags and left her sleepy village in Dorset behind, heading for the sights and sounds (and the black smoke) of London, to attend the Brit School of Performing Arts. Here she could really feed her craving for music, wanting to be able to do everything and anything music related, she learned to play the drums and keyboards, and further developed her guitar and bass techniques, often combining the two to create her own style. She wrote and performed her own material and formed her first band, the “Happy Zucchinis'” within hours of arrival. Her guitar is her best friend. She is almost never without it. She can get it to speak to her audience; using picking and harmonics to quietly whisper in their ear or shout and scream at them as a funky, catchy riff is delivered. Combining her playing with haunting and poignant lyrics, enchantingly sung, leaves her audience breathless. Her songs are written from the heart; dealing with life’s experiences; friendship, love, loss, even her dog! They are full of emotion, funny or sad, inspiring or thought provoking, and tell short stories of events and people in her life. The recording of her songs started Teresa down the music technology route; from the early days of cassette recorders and reel to reel tapes, through to hard disc recorders and computers, she used all of these to record her material using whatever was close at hand to best effect. She was inspired by and learnt from her father, and became familiar with recording techniques, mixing desks and equipment, studio and live environments, and mastered computer software such as Cubase, Sibelius and Reason.Later, she attended the Academy of Contemporary Music (ACM) in Guildford where she achieved a BA in contemporary music with the bass guitar as her principle instrument.Teresa has pursued music technology, attending Pro Tools courses, giving her the ability and qualifications to teach this to others. She built her own home studio and her guitar now has a new best friend in the form of an Apple Mac laptop, which also never leaves her side. As an engineer Teresa puts artists at ease with her understanding of their songs. She inspires confidence, getting the most from them and then uses her skills, knowledge and passion to really bring the song to life, beyond the artistes wildest expectations. When Teresa is not teaching music technology formally, she continues her enthusiasm for passing on music by mentoring bands and teaching guitar and bass. With the other few hours left in the day she engineers and produces in studios or could be playing a gig somewhere!Teresa really misses the cappuccino cheesecakes that M&S used to sell.
