Scott Hughes

I can't complain, but sometimes I still do...

About Me

Originally from Grand Island, Nebraska, Scott is now one of the Northeast's busiest guitar instructors, juggling 60+ private students as well as serving on the faculty of the University of Maine-Augusta music dept (where he teaches guitar and directs the "Progressive Rock" ensemble).Scott's third CD, "The In-Between Phase", finds him returning to his roots, as the fusion-esque leanings of his earlier work are replaced with a gutsy, stripped down approach that combines finely-crafted tunes with the tasteful, contemporary guitar work that listeners have come to expect. In addition to Hughes' orignals, listeners are treated to covers of Edgar Winter's classic "Frankenstein", and a unique spin on Thelonious Monk's "Blue Monk". Guitarists Derryl Gabel and Jeff Smoots also join in for guest solos on "Fi-Lo".An endorsee for Dimarzio pickups, Xotic Effects, and Brian Moore guitars, as well as a Guitar Player magazine "Spotlight" recipient, Scott Hughes' latest effort is sure to please both the casual music fan as well as the rabid guitar enthusiast.U-Maine 2008
