About Me

Umlaut Songs Anniversary Give-aways

Pocket Life marks the one-year anniversary of the release of our debut album Umlaut Songs with the release of a live video of the song Globus in a Window from the album release party at Musikcaféen. The video can be viewed and downloaded from YouTube - and the live version of the song is also available as a free download here at MySpace.

The Music

We play our own songs written by Ole Luk Sørensen and Jakob Schmidt. Our approach is to build the music around the atmosphere of the songs. Give it a listen - that's probably better than reading in length about it. This is MySpace after all.

Our debut album Umlaut Songs was released on the 25th of January 2009. Here's a few quotes from the reviews:

(4/6) Gaffa: "It is not every day that at Danish band releases a double debut album. But Pocket Life does it in style." ... "With Umlaut Songs, Pocket Life delivers a timeless album that has survived event the most troubling moments." Read the entire review (Danish)

(4/6) Nordjyske: "Good songs that given time suddenly unfold and have you humming and whistling in you livingroom. Timeless songwriting of high quality." Read the entire review (Danish)

Ikon 1931: "Beautiful music that is sometimes dark, but has a bright air to it. Beautiful music that describes life as it is. Because of that, Umlaut Songs is definitely worth checking out." Read the entire review (Swedish)

The Songs

Currently the songs you can hear here on our MySpace profile are four of the songs from the album, "Umlaut Songs", including the A and B sides from the first single off the album plus a couple of acoustic live recordings from Christianshavns Beboerhus.

Community video from Katapult

When we played Santorie Café at Teater Katapult in Århus on October 24th 2008, we had the audience shoot a new community video for us. This time it's the song Do You Read Me - a rather old song but we're playing it in a brand new way:

Again, Palle has edited the clips into this fascinating piece of underground video art:

And here's the video for the single Leave A Message After The Tone :

Community Video from Le Petit Cabaret

The good crowd helped us record this music video for a very acoustic live version of the Pocket Life classic A Life Worth Waiting For , when we played at Le Petit Cabaret on 9th of April 2008.

Palle put the bits together. We hope you appreciate the underground feel of the thing :-)

The great loss

Our guitarist and main songwriter, Ole Luk Sørensen, tragically died in December 2006. It is a devastating loss. Ole was a great friend and to Pocket Life he was the heart and soul of our sound. Ole was a huge personal and musical inspiration to us all.

After a time of confusion and doubt, the band is now determined not only to put out the recordings we made when Ole was still here, but also to carry on working with his and our music in the style and the spirit that we found and developed over the years.
