About Me

After a good few visits to Ibiza in the 90s 00’s Coley decided to have a go at this "music making lark" Within one year he had earned enough kudos with his ideas to grab the attention of house music producer Damon Hatcher. In one afternoon back in 2004 they both sat down and wrote and produced "People and the Sound", a pounding funky house track featuring the vocals of Coleys fellow radio presenter Niambi. In just a few short weeks the tune was picked up by Matt Collins of house music giant Hed Kandi and played on London’s Smooth FM as well as in some of the clubs in Ibiza.Coley was already making waves as a radio jock, presenting both breakfast and drive time shows on commercial radio. It was during his time at the radio and late after a show one night that Coley was working on another house track. Frustrated by how it was turning out he wrote what he describes at the time as "throw away lyrics" to "rap" over the top. He called the song "avin a larf" and left it at that, a pure tongue in cheek song. A short time after that the song was picked up by London Music and Business guru Ray Santilli.By now it was the summer of 2004 and it all started go a bit mad with Ray talking of launching Coley in a big way. Ray had been responsible in the early 80's for people like Annie Lennox, Boy George, Hot Chocolate and Musical Youth to name but a few. However, a forced rush job in the production of the release along with a gaff by the pressing plant threw a spanner in the works of Rays plans. "If things had got off the ground earlier and certain errors had not been made, things might have been different back then" says Coley. Undeterred, Coley decided to continue writing music that was a bit different to the club genre and decided to shout up a few of his mates who were game for a laugh."I gave Sam Smooth the nod after hearing some of his mixes. I knew him from back in the mid 90's when we both worked for a two bob courier firm."Sam Smooth had worked with major house act Three Amigos and in turn Welsh legend Tom Jones. "I’m surprised he has never been given the big stage more often, as a DJ and producer the geezer’s got a shed load of skill and most importantly, a passion for the music” enthuses Coley.Next to join ranks was the London born Reggie. Reggie had already impressed the team with his outrageous ability to seemingly write full songs upon request. The boys turned to him to begin work on a song about middle management.Reggie and Coley penned "Get a life" in no time at all. It was then that they decided they would need a blinding singer to give the tune the lift right where it was needed.Enter "Kaybee" a singer songwriter with some serious club land clout behind him. Kaybee started out back in the late 80s as the lead singer in a reggae band before moving into the growing House scene. It wasn’t long before his vocal talents got him noticed by some of the bigger names in the industry and that in turn led him on to work with a variety of artists on independent record labels such as Cue Records, Vibe Alive, Big Giant Music and Karma Girraffe. Having worked with Sam Smooth already as duo ‘Kaybee & Smooth’, the two have already had club-chart status with some of their Club tracks and Kaybee has performed live vocal sets in many ‘West End’ nightclubs. With a skill for melodies and writing great hooks his vocal sound gives a nod to the Soul undertones that underpin some of the Cockney Avenger tracks!2009 looks set to be a busy year for the guys as they press on and try to finish more projects at Sam Smooth towers, stay tuned!

My Interests

Music:

Band Members: I'm (Coley)from the old skool early 90's dance music bang and have been on and off the scene since. I decided to start making music back in 2003. The first proper house tune I ever made with my brethren Damo was called "people and the sound" was given a good few spins on the knees up mecca island of Ibiza and on Smooth FM by house label Hed Kandi....................Reggie is a talented writer from the same era and I decided to get him on board after realising he has a knack for writing some good tunage. We give Reggie the heads up on an idea at the same time as ordering a pizza and he comes back with an almost finished track before the geezer knocks with our munch. Genius territory here squire:-) SAM SMOOTH has been spinning the vinyl since 1991 and is key in sprinkling his magic funky dust on what we do.He already has an impressive list of funky house productions to his arsenal under the alias of Kaybee and Smooth. He has supported house act The Three Amigos and played alongside a host of old skool DJ's such as Slipmatt and The Soul Avengers.A talented producer and a naturally gifted vinyl junkie with a passion for what he does best KAYBEEvocalist and songwriter been singing his way round the music scene for many many years. Often featured on many underground bootleg tracks as a featured artist. His first vocal airing was as lead singer in a raggae band, before he cought the house bug in the latter part of the 80's. Ten City, Franckie Knuckles and Joe Smooth were some of the artists that inspired him and still influence his vocal style today.Worked with some BIGGGG names in the past (but he'd rather not mention them, as He's no name dropper)...they know who they are!His unique vocal sound can be heard on many house tracks at there at the mo, and he's also a regular live vocalist on the club scene.Kaybee & smooth ....vocalist and songwitter. Genius catchy hook writer! (-:
Influences: For me I guess its life experience alongside people like Beastie Boys,Cypress Hill, House of Pain . For Reggie its gotta be the 80's hip hop bods such as Public Enemy, RUN DMC , for Sam Smooth just about anything from 70's Funk and Soul to breaks and funky twisted house and for Kaybee its the legends comprised of Stevie wonder, Byron Stingly, bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff, Annie Lennox, The Specials, Jo Smooth, Frankie knuckles, Marvin Gay to name but a few.
