* The JOY of MAKEUP*
"As a young girl, makeup was my after school treat. It was my cupcake." While most eight year old girls were busy playing with their Barbies or Easy Bake Ovens, Joy played with makeup. "As long as my homework was completed correctly, I could play in my mother or grandmother's makeup. I would stare at the pages of my mom's Cosmopolitan or Essence magazines, then run to the mirror and duplicate the looks and my mom would be shocked!"
Now as a certified makeup artist, Joy intends to shock the world of makeup artistry. Throughout her teen & college years, Joy was always given praises for her makeup talent. But it was her talent in writing poetry & short stories that led Joy to study Journalism at Cal State University Northridge & was briefly mentored my renowned journalist George E. Curry.
A few years after college and months of "writers block", Joy decided to do some soul searching. She says, "I realized makeup was my true passion. It really made me feel good. Beauty & Fashion are the only industries in which you can literally "wear" your talent. How great is that!" So after the encouragement of longtime friend and fashion designer Alexis Phifer, Joy decided to seriously pursue makeup.
Joy attended the Studio Makeup Academy in Hollywood, CA and was certified in Film, Print, TV, Stage & Fashion/Runway makeup artistry. "My hobby and true passion is now my rewarding career", said Joy. "The art of makeup will ALWAYS be my cupcake and it taste great!" Why not have your "cupcake" and eat it too.
In 2007, Joy became a certified makeup artist in Los Angeles and will travel.

**Update** Sept. 2008: Currently Joy is studying to receive her Esthetician license.
