About Me

In a world of over-hyped band bios I'll make this short 'n sweet.
I started my music life as guitarist/singer/songwriter with my band Degenerates (previously signed to EMI / Chrysalis). Via this label we released the debut album 'Play Dinosaur', produced by Kevin Caveman Shirly in 1991.
Degenerates released a 2nd album 'Outspoken' via Bent Records (1993), and enjoyed continued RAGE airplay and distribution through Shock.
After a distro shift and name change, Degenerates released an experimental album under the pseudo band name of "Box of Anger", released through MDS in '96. Box of Anger released a number of videos along with the "Clean" EP (1995) and the self titled album in 1996.
Degenerates/Box of Anger disbanded in 1997, and soon after I created a new "sun drenched" very Aussie/Midnight Oil inspired Penny Safari band with a former school mate Chris Gates. Chris is still playing in bands and has co-produced a new track "Waste of a Life" by Lisa Maxwell - check it out - it rocks!
Currently I'm working on a new bunch of songs likly to be released under my name (check out the demos of "Hello Hello" & "Panic Song" on my player), also for check outhe Penny Safari tune "My Crime" - and lets not forget my transformation from guitarist to drummer for Lisa Maxwell. Please, please listen to, and purchase her current Select Vacancy album.
Both Select Vacancy & Penny Safari's Safari Inn were recorded through my amazing Neve console, which was purchased from Melbourne's channel 9 for a song. For further details visit:

For any musos interested in recording a CD quality EP or album in the studio, please post me a message, I'll get right back to ya. After many years in front of the console I'm still happily producing several bands and solo musicians.
Final notes: I've started the new label Essential Music Australia, that is now rocketing along with the stunning new talent of Lisa Maxwell - released through MGM/Green Media Distribution & iTunes etc.
Also, many thanks to all who have helped me create the quality magazine business Essentials Magazine. Living in the wonderful region of North East Victoria is a blessing and having the talented list of writers, photographers, printers and friends helping along the way is steadly producing a great little culture packed travel glossy, see: www.essentialsmagazine.com.au
Cheers, Jamie!

PENNY SAFARI - THE SAFARI INN - review from Heard.com.au

A wonderful Australian band, Penny Safari's sound is at the very least as good as anything the major labels are releasing, most likely recorded on a fraction of the budget & interestingly enough, sounding equally as good, most likely because of that. The music here sounds fresh & spontaneous & will please fans of great rock no end.

Starting out as they intend to continue on the opening track "My Crime", the band's music hit's it's stride immediately, bringing guitar to the fore & showcasing frontman Jamie Durrant's exceptional vocal abilities, which are great.

A very hard album from which to pick a single, but a real contender here would have to be the brilliantly infectious single "We Love You", though my personal favourite here is the more relaxed "I Saw The World". I also loved the slight irreverence of "Punk Rock Idol" & the more traditional rock feeling of "Two Hands To The Sun". Definitely one of the great Australian bands - no question.
