Born and raised in Basel Switzerland, Elena Zenero emerged as a fashion designer in 1999 with her first womens-wear collection. That same year, she opened her eponymous shop goyagoya in Frankfurt am Main. She made her international debut at the Bread & Butter Trade Show in 2003, where she won the Bread & Butter award for Street Couture, followed by the International Fashion Fair award (IFF) in Tokyo in 2004. In April 2005 she opened her flagship store Freud, also in Frankfurt am Main. The more mature label goyagoya, as well as her more playfully designed label Lovelove by goyagoya created in 2002, gained international recognition within a very short time. Zenero's emotional design speaks a powerful language of images and associations. Goyagoya is known for a very distinct use of materials and exquisite detail. The styles are inspired by film and music, as well as personal experience transformed into new imagery.
 Concepts, images, ideas, daily life, personal experiences, and dreams all influence the style of the latest creations, which evoke a trance like state of mind. Archetypal imagery, images that everyone has dreamt or felt, are typical for both labels. The collections are suffused with contrast, stripes, dots, heavy, and lightweight materials...high tension balanced through shape, form and craft...memories of the past, the the wild years of the french bohème, Nancy Cunard, the wealth of images and atmospheres in Pasolini's films, an air of provocation and rebellion, witty and strong women who assert themselves in a world dominated by men using wit, frivolity and coquetry in an intelligent way.
