About Me

&nbspI am a veteran jazz guitarist from New York who has resided in Indianapolis since 1973. After touring nationally for 12 years I settled down in 1984 to a career based around performing and teaching in the Indy area. I mainly perform in small group settings, but my band, The Bill Lancton Coalition, is a full blown organization, consisting of anywhere from a guitar-bass-keys-drums quartet to a full blown octet with horns.I absolutely love teaching, and I have had the pleasure of mentoring hundreds of students of all ages, many of whom have gone on to receive music degrees and started their own musical careers. In 2005, I had the honor of being inducted into the Indianapolis Jazz Hall Of Fame, joining Wes Montgomery as the only two guitarists in the IJHOF. I also received the Indianapolis Arts Council Creative Renewal Fellowship that same year.I have worked with artists as diverse as Hammond organ legend Melvin Rhyne, honkey tonk piano Queen JoAnn Castle from the Lawrence Welk show, guitar masters Fareed Haque and Henry Johnson, and sax diva Mindi Abair. My cds are available for purchase at www.billlancton.com.
