De-Lee-La

About Me

Deborah Baum was born in Casablanca, Morocco, and was raised in Israel. Her father was a singer and composer of Spanish influenced Hebrew and Moroccan religious songs, and her mother a theatre actress and singer, inspired by the Arabic tradition. Aside from her incessant career as a choral and solo singer, Deborah also studied and performed traditional dance, and still today instructs large scale tribal dance workshops. Her love of music and dance led her to travel all over the world and experience multiculturalism first hand. De-Lee-La is a collaboration between Deborah and her daughter Lee-La, a prominent rock and roll singer on the Montreal stage (The Damn Truth). Although Lee-La’s musical interest leans towards the folk and rock of the 60’s, after living in India for a year and studying traditional song and dance, she regained a fascination with the music of the cultures, and began singing traditional Hebrew songs with her mother.
