When thinking about the history of Cleveland Metal/Hardcore band Dead Even, where they
began is quite a puzzling question. With all the gains, setbacks and lineup changes over the past
four years, one thing still remains the same from past to present: Dead Even is five friends playing
music they love. Although the faces may change from time to time, the spirit of the band endures
to maintain originality and persist to grow in all aspects of music they may take on.The band's past, though, is hardly a glitch on the map. From small mini-tours with
Integrity, to playing with Hatebreed, Chimaira, Dillinger Escape Plan, Killswitch Engage, Shadows
Fall, Cro-Mags, Turmoil, Mushroomhead, Every Time I Die, Terror and Ringworm among many
other popular acts, they push to play with the best and deliver the best live show they can every
show. With a strong local release which also saw distribution in Europe through Superhero
Records, their "Of Constant Rotaton" EP expanded their fanbase farther than they expected in
2004.In 2006, the strongest lineup to date for Dead Even is busy pushing the band's boundaries,
and taking on their biggest challenges yet. JC (vocals), Rob Walters (drums), and Matt Brewer
(guitar, ex-Ringworm, ex-25 Ta Life, Integrity) continue to reside in their original positions, and
with the return of guitarist Aaron Salo and addition of bassist Matt Murphy, a new spark of
motivation has been inspiring the band in another "rebirth". The bands direction musically is in the
same spirit as it has been, combining old school hardcore elements, death metal/tech concepts
and several highly influential metal styles. Technically and personally the band is at a level more
comfortable than they've ever experienced. With a split release with Michigan's Dissonant on the
way for a spring release, Dead Even plans for a busy and productive year in 2006, and won't back
down from any challenges they may face in the coming months.
*In the fall of 2006, Dead Even announced they would be ending the band at the end of the year. On December 28th they played their final show at Peabody's Downunder in Cleveland, OH.*
