Country that Rocks!

About Me

I started writing songs at about 15 and learned piano at 17 and guitar at 19. At around 20 I became more serious about music and began recording demos and learning about sound engineering. I played with some bands on and off and was close to some success, but then Silicon Valley had beckoned with big money, so I sold my musical soul to the technology money devil. While I continued song writing on and off and dabbling in recording, I was mostly distracted away by a highly successful career that was a non stop ride of growth companies, start-ups, and IPO's in Silicon Valley, Asia and Europe (I have had the opportunity to live all over the world). It was fun and profitable and a lot of hard work, but I longed to get back into music in a serious way. In 2005 I met a long time ex-pro musician who gave me ton's of great direction and advice on writing and production. First, to focus only on one main Genre (it was Country for me), second only write with an acoustic guitar, paper and a pencil, so you stay focused on song craft rather than getting lost in production, recording gear, and computers. A good song will just flow and only needs a basic instrument and vocal to know if it’s a good song, all the rest is just spice. Now I am able to produce (and finish) a lot more and higher quality music, founded a great band, and allowed balance to enter my life.MSCharts

They perform original interpretations and outside-the-box arrangements of popular classics and new hot country songs as well as many original selections.Smack Dab primarily plays in Northern California and is on tour to circumnavigate the San Francisco Bay Area from Gilroy to Point Reyes and Pacifica to Antioch............................................
Influences: Eagles (my first band influence, and my first album), Hank Williams (simple and pure), Fleetwood Mac (what a groove), Frampton, George Jones, Patsy Cline, Foghat (I'm a fool for the city), Ambrosia (mellow), Gama, Van Halen (power), Sammy Hagar, U2 (Bono rocks), Del Amitri (Scottish band, Justin is the best songwriter ever), Kent (Swedish band, ja ska da, ping me if you know what it means), George Strait (miracle man), Journey, ELO, Alan Jackson, Patty Loveless, Dwight Yoakam (put the cool in hick), Weezer (unwind my sweater to beverely hills), John Michael Montgomery (pioneered NHC), The Babys (remember them, John Waite lead singer), Brad Paisley (riff master), Allman Bro's, Skynard (soulful southern rock), Nirvana (deep), and yes I will come out and admit Duran Duran (I listened but I didn't inhale).Keating, Pope, Whitman, Frost (the woods are lovely dark and deep, but i have promises to keep, and miles to go before i sleep, and miles to go before i sleep, tell me thats not a great lyric), Byron, Yates, Shakespear, and of course the incomparable and audacious Oscar Wilde (We wont have to look for work and work wont have to look for us. We are all of us in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars), and pretty much anything ever written or performed that is great.
Sounds Like: Who do you think? ..............Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, And sorry I could not travel both And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth; Then took the other, as just as fair And having perhaps the better claim, Because it was grassy and wanted wear; Though as for that, the passing there Had worn them really about the same,And both that morning equally lay In leaves no step had trodden black Oh, I kept the first for another day! Yet knowing how way leads on to way, I doubted if I should ever come back.I shall be telling this with a sigh Somewhere ages and ages hence: two roads diverged in a wood, and I -- I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference. (thank you Mr Frost)
