Potential Difference is a Los Angeles based rock band consisting of singer/keyboardist/guitarist Connor Carroll, drummer Scott Miyako, bassist Kimberly Chai, and guitarist Steven Desa. The band was formed in October of 2005 when its members came together as students at UCLA. One half of the group was already set when Connor and Scott decided to start a band after having collaborated in songwriting for several years. After meeting Kim and Steven through a Facebook U2 Fan Club that Kim had created, the band quickly came together, building on their similar musical tastes and most importantly, their aspiration to write more music.
Since fall of 2005, Potential Difference has tested their music across West Los Angeles, concentrating the majority of their gigs around the UCLA campus. Performances have included UCLA TV talk shows and several appearances on the main stage of Bruin Plaza. In addition, the band has also performed at local nightclubs including the famed Whisky A Go-Go and Knitting Factory.
When it comes to the music, Potential Difference would describe their sound as being of the “indie-rock†style, with songs ranging from slow and melodic to more upbeat and rhythm-oriented. The band cites artists such as U2, the Killers, Franz Ferdinand, the Strokes, Coldplay, and the Shins as being big influences on their music; however more importantly, Potential Difference has also been carefully pioneering their own unique sound. After writing and rehearsing in their Torrance studio for the better part of two years, they find themselves continuously growing as a band and always excited to share their music with the public.
