Quotes and Aphorisms

Life is a symphony, and the action of every person in this life is the playing of his particular part in the music. The secret of seeking the will of God lies in cultivating the faculty of sensing harmony, for harmony is beauty and beauty is harmony. The lover of beauty in his further progress becomes the seeker of harmony, and by trying always to maintain harmony he will tune his heart to the will of God.There is nothing in the world which is not the instrument of God.Noisiness comes from restlessness, and restlessness is the destuctive rhythm.Man's atmosphere explains the condition of his soul. The further we go, so the more our disputes and arguments cease. They fade away until there is no color left in them; and when all the color has gone, the white light comes which is the light of God.Nirvana means no color. What is color? Right or wrong, sin or virtue - all this is color, and in the realm of truth they fade away, as every color fades in the brightness of light. He who has realized this has entered nirvana.Hazrat Inayat KhanMusic is the cup that holds the wine of silence. Sound is the cup, empty; noise is the cup, broken.Attributed to Robert FrippChinese Proverbs: Contemplation without facts is dangerous; facts without contemplation are a waste of time. (Confucius)A gem cannot be polished without friction. You don't get harmony when everyone sings the same note! -- AnonymousAn art which does not reveal mysteries, which does not lead to the sphere of the Unknown, does not yield new knowledge, is a parody of art, and still more often it is not even a parody, but simply a commerce or an industry. (P.D. Ouspensky)Works of art are not created by feeling, thus feeling does not suffice for understanding them.-- Konrad Fiedler

Sound and Silence

The mind exists as long as there is sound, but with the cessation of sounds, there is the state of being above the mind. The sound is absorbed in the aksara (indestructible), and the soundless state is the supreme seat. The mind, which along with prana as its karmic affinities destroyed by the constant concentration upon nada, is absorbed in the unstained One. There is no doubt about it.-- Nada Bindu Upanisad

Percussion Journal Entry May 12 2k7

Frame drum is such an interesting instrument. Each note has so much to it. Frame drums are frequency spectrum hogs. I've spent a fair amount of time integrating frame drum into larger musical contexts...

Black Honey (New tune - just posted)

So I've just posted a rough(ish) mix of Black Honey. This was something Stephanie  and I started to play with a couple of months ago. There was no real clear vision at first. She had been playing...

A note about myspace and musical genre

I just got set up the myspace space.  I have found that while it is possible to describe ones music as hyphy(?) or grime (!), there is no genre "World Fusion".
