Rafikis Own

It's nothing too much. I'm the solo artist of Rafiki's Own with, what I hope to say, multi-instrumental talents.
I started playing bells with everyone else in school in fourth grade. I was enraptered with all of Olson's random percussive "toys". When fifth grade came, I had always imagined I would sign up in the band playing trumpet. But, I decided differently and started with percussion.
Pekol gave me a bell set and a practice pad, and it was off. Although he is not my most favorite person, Pekol did give us the fundamentals, but that was about it.
Come seventh grade, Pekol got kicked out, and Mr. K took over. All of a sudden dynamics and 16th notes were thrown in my face. But I managed, teaching myself how to play everything I would need to in middle school pep band on the tri-toms. I sat in my room for hours, going over the music countless times until I had it owned.
As I grew higher in the "ranks", my love for percussion grew. I gradually apprectiated not only the sound of just what I was playing, but the sound of the whole section, and the ways it complemented the whole band.
So I try to be the best at every percussive instrument I can. For my last birthday I got a keyboard, so now I'm also working at those skills. Sometime maybe I'll break out the acoustic guitar I have laying here and learn to fingerpick.
But for now, it's the bongos. I just got a new pair for christmas, and basically, I'm just screwing around, learning what actions can make what noises. It's about expiramental as it can get for me.
So don't expect awesome bongo material, or anything for the matter. I thoroughly enjoy the sound they make, and maybe you will too.
