Sergei Ioannisyan was born in Nalchik, Russia in a family of musicians. He started studying piano at the age of six in a music school. At the age of nine, he picked up drums and other percussion instruments. At the age of fourteen Sergei Ioannisyan was accepted to a music college in Nalchik, Russia as a percussion major. After three years of study, Sergei moved to St.Petersburg, Russia, where he studied for four more years at Mussorgsky College of Music. At the age of 19 Sergei won “The Young Performers” competition at The Jazz Philharmonic Hall in St. Petersburg, Russia. At the age of twenty one, Sergei Ioannisyan received a bachelor’s degree and was accepted to the St.Petersburg State University of Culture and Arts for the Master’s program. Sergei Ioannisyan moved to The United States in 1993 and successfully graduated from Berklee College of Music, where he currently works as a staff accompanists for the vocal department. Sergei is a band leader as well as a sideman.Sergei Ioannisyan has worked and performed with the Berklee’s leading professors and others: Jan Shapiro Chair, Bob Stoloff, Dave Samuels, Suzanne Davis, Mili Bermejo-Greenspan, Joey Blake, Armsted Christian, Jeannie Gagné, Jerome Kyles, Donna McElroy, Paul Pampinella Assistant, Jeff Ramsey, Diane Richardson, Daniela Schaechter, Stan Strickland, David Thorne Scott, John Toomy, Marshal Wood, Phil Grenadier, Vadim Neselovsky, Dave Landony, Maxim Lubarsky, The Massachusetts State Choir and many others.Sergei Ioannisyan has performed at different jazz festivals and clubs in the US: “Steppin’out for Dimock Festival” (sharing stage with Oleta Adams, T.S. Monk, Ramsey Lewis trio, The Funk Brothers, Regina Carter, Andrew Ward and others), Symphony Hall, Berklee Performance Center, Ryles Jazz Club, Acton Jazz Café, Beehive, Vernissage and abroad: The International Jazz Festivals: “Swing of the White Nights, “Jazz Fever”, “Tong Jazz Festival” Jazz Clubs abroad: “Kvadrat” Jazz Club, “Street Life” Jazz Club, JFC Jazz Club, Jazz Philharmonic Hall, Pfalzkeller Hall and many others.TV/Radio appearances Radio appearances with Hyunwoo Han’s jazz band Tokyo, Japan 2008 TV show (Appearance/interview on TV Channel “100”) St.Petersburg, Russia 2005
