Influences: Hank Williams Snr. + Hank jr., Tom Jones, Ray Charles, Beatles, Otis Reading, Beach Boys, James Brown, Oasis, Frank Sinatra, Quincy Jones, Benny Goodman & His Big Band + many others......................................................
...................This guy, in his prime and especially his tv series; This Is...Tom Jones, is the sole reason I wanted to be a singer/performer. He was doing what every red-blooded guy would like to be doing ie., singing while being surrounded by adoring, screeming women. Tom..s ..live.. vocal performances, in styles from country to soul, are often awesome and just about impossible to compete with...for many, many years, he was known, world-wide, as ..The Voice.....considering the number of professional male singers he was, and is, competing with, he has to be increadibly gifted, vocally, to earn this tag and, unlike a lot of singers, could also move it while belting out an up-tempo number. This series of shows (57), in today..s money, would cost around $600-million to make and the quality comes shining through in all departments with many of the major stars, from the golden era of the ..60..s, including; Aretha Franklin, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, Cher, Sammy Davis jr, Wilson Picket, Lulu, The Who, Joe Cocker, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard, Mamma Cass, Dusty Springfield etc., etc., can be seen, in their prime, performing solo and with Tom........................................................C
heck out below, his duet with Janis Joplin...for me, it..s THEE most powerful and exciting duet ever recorded between 2 white performers with big, bluesy voices and the whole set, including Tom, Janis and all the groovers, going mental and havin.. a BALL...it..s also obvious, by the the body language of the 2 performers while dancing, that they were right into each other...sure wish I could have been part of that audience. .......................................Below are some of his awesome duets with the fabulous Aretha Franklin...I have trouble thinkin.. of any of today..s young artists who could even come close to matching the vocal performances of these two legends - can you? Also; check out his sensational version of "My Way". Paul Anka was giving it to Tom if Frank Sinatra had declined to recored it...have to honestly say, he blows everyone away, including Frank..s fabulous version.
