Vocally the comparisons to Antony and The Johnsons will be inevitable but Mann’s variant singing styles also remind of Paul Robeson and the ghost of the beloved German pop/opera diva Klaus Nomi. To pull together this cornucopia of styles there are waltz-tempo numbers that sound like sea shanties (Herringbone Blues), minstrel style tracks such as the seven and a half minute opus Shoe of Leather, and even a vaguely poppy number A Burning Fire. I adore the minimalist opener, A Book, which sounds like a Gregorian chant and segues so beautifully into the ravishing Oberon"
