Amongst performers aiming to bring audiences a slice of laughter are impressionist and funnyman Alistair McGowan who will perform his new show at Hull New Theatre. The theatre shall also play host to stage comedies Little Shop of Horrors and an adaptation of the hit TV sitcom, Porridge starring Shaun Williamson, AKA Barry from Eastenders and Extras.
Al Murray brings his Pub Landlord show back to Hull City Hall whilst American comic and regular to BBC 1 panel show, QI, Rich Hall brings his award winning act to Hull Truck Theatre to headline a programme of live comedy in conjunction with Hull Comedy Festival.
Established shows, such as Durty Nelly's Comedy Buskers Ball, the Music & Comedy Exchange return, as does the Tenfoot City Comedian of the Year which shall be given a bit of a facelift.
Organisers claim that they are working with promoters, performers and venues to programme shows that provides diverse shows that cater for a variety of comedy tastes.
Hull Comedy Festival is organised by eskimosoup in partnership with Hull Business Improvement District, St Stephen's, KCFM and Hull Colour Pages.
Festival Director, John Gilbert said: "When a festival returns, the promoter always says that it's going to be bigger and better. Although the line-up so far is pretty impressive, our main focus is on better. We are going to be running some fairly innovative projects that involve more local people. Comedy can bring people together in many positive ways."
Tickets for shows at Hull City Hall, Hull New Theatre and Hull Truck can be bought via their main box offices. More information about all festival shows and how to get involved can be found at the new website at
