Sounds Like: The First Lady Shekera Wheatley started singing in her bathroom at the age of seven. It was then she began familiarizing herself with different types of music. After being exposed to her fathers musical abilities and talent she became fascinated and very interested in becoming a musician. Her father Laurie Wheatley is a musician known for playing instruments including the keyboards and the guitar. Because of her fathers love for music, she is determined to follow in his footsteps. Back in third form of the Bregado Flax Eduacational Centre Secondary Division High School she began playing the Trumpet and became a part of the High School Concert Band and the Jazz Band. Her father had a keyboard in the house and she was able to learn that instrument on her own. After being self thought with the keyboard she was able to play songs including; Canon, Another Day in Paradise, House of the rising sun, Amazing Grace, It is well with my soul and many other church hymns. She began singing while still in high school with a very popular guitarist Phillip Thomas. She made a guest appearance on Phillip’s Album entitled PRAYER, doing a dub on the song “Running.” It was that song that got the attention of the Lead Guitarist Larry Riviere from the group Elvis White formerly known as Frontline. He asked her times and times to come to their band room to audition as they were looking for a female singer to help to enhance their group. Since then Shekera has been with Elvis White for five years and continues on the Elvis White Movement. In 2001, Shekera enrolled in the Hamilton Lavity Stoutt Community College in Tortola pursuing a degree in Marketing. In June of 2005 she accomplished her goal which were to earn an Associates degree in the field of Marketing. In May 2005 Shekera migrated to Atlanta, Georgia pursing her musical career. She had two months to prepare for something that she had never done in her entire life. She was going on a 22 U.S. City tour with Keith Sweat, KC and JoJo, Franky Beverly and Maze and Sir Charles. In December of that same year she was excited to hear that she was about to do a nine European City tour with the Fugees.Shekera recorded her first Caribbean Single entitled “Don’t Break My Heart.” This song was written and produced by Greg Hogan and Shekera. Greg Hogan is the musical director of Elvis White. This song flooded the airwaves in The B.V.I., U.S.V.I. and Europe and the U.S. for sometime. Her second single is “Soca Diva.” This song was written, produced and recorded by Greg Hogan. This is her most current song and is currently being played all around the world. These songs are apart of the Album “Promise Live and Direct” by Elvis White which is tentatively set to be released in April 2007.
