Wolf – At Moon’s Rising
While most wolves are known for running in packs this lone Wolf does damage all by himself – full moon or not. Far from humble, bordering on arrogant but somehow conveniently stuck in the middle of the two extremes this barely legal canine bites deeply into the flesh of emcee wanna-be’s much his senior.
The Frontline Productions artist describes himself as, ‘The animal of hip hop. One who can survive alone and even more dangerous when in a pack. [I’m] the vicious beast; always hungry, always searching’.
This drive may be the result of a modest upbringing. He lost his father at an early age which left his retired mother a widow, money was in short supply but never a defining issue. Daunting as it may have been Wolf has always been a hustler – making the best of a bad situation.
While others are motivated by money and fame, Wolf is motivated by citizenship. He says, ‘I do it to put my country [The Bahamas] on the map... I'm paving the road for the young talent under me to make it major in entertainment… Like a wise man said, "I ain’ in it for the fame that dies within weeks, I ain’ in it for money can’t take it when you leave".
Kylon ‘Wolf’ Wells would probably surprise most who know the reputation of his alma mater. Although in no way a social deviant his irreverent, witty and clever writing style compounded with his delivery is a distinct deviation from the literally hallowed halls of Kingsway Academy.
Citing early influences such as [Lil] Bow Wow, whom he admits was [at the time] not only an artist in his age bracket, but one who ‘did’ his thing and garnered support from female fans and male supporters. Today his influences include artists like Jay-Z, Biggie, Tupac, KRS-ONE, Bun B, Rakim and Lil Wayne.
If you want a ‘Yes Man’, Wolf is the wrong man. If you want a tell-it-straight-up, no holds barred, take-it-or-leave-it kind of artist, well Wolf is the jackpot. He questions EVERYTHING which is probably how he keeps his wit and lyrical teeth sharp.
Recognizing this rare breed of talent, Frontline Productions recruited Wolf as one of the labels’ star artists and Wolf credits Frontline CEO, Nik Barnes with a particular brand of mentorship. ‘Nik Barnes, taught me a lot about what I should and shouldn’t do in order to become a good entertainer and how to handle my business on a professional level’, he says.
With a soon to be released album & mix-tape in the works and the backing of music power houses, Frontline Productions and BuffBoo Music, Wolf is going to be doing more than howling at the moon. You’ll see more of him as he makes the moon rise.
