Ill Phaness was born March 17, 1981 in Nuu' Uli Amerikan Samoa. He moved to Tustin Ca. in 1984 where he has helped create an empire of TuffTown Hiphop. A child of the 80's and 90's, Ill Phaness was very fond of Hiphop music from artists such as Run DMC to Rakim to 2Pac to B.I.G. to D.J. Quik to Nas to Wu Tang Clan to the DPG.
Phaness grew up in 3 different era's of Hiphop cultures. Through this broad horizion of Hiphop he was able apprciate the various aspects of Hiphop and its Culture. Phaness is a Pioneer of Tustin Hiphop as he was one of few artist to rep Tustin on wax in the late 90's. Phaness first started flowing at the age of 16 in 1997 with partner BIG RED R.I.P. He started taking it serious in 1998 when he and his brother O*C producer Umm... Tha Tracksmith Co-Founded Strollin' Wreckless Entertainment then known as Strolling Records, along with friend O*C producer Short Stack.
This all seemed to come to a hault when he was charged and convicted of a 5 year prison term. But indeed it only added fuel to the fire. After being released, Phaness, Tracksmith and Afa Prince created Strollin' Wreckless Ent. Studio's nicknamed "Tha Bar" and the rest was History. This studio is home to S.W.E. And has been used by numerous O*C Hiphop artist. Phaness also coined the term "TuffTown", a nickname given to the South Side of Tustin.
Phaness has been known and respected on the mic and in the streets because he keeps it real in the streets and in the booth! Phaness self proclaims himself "The King of TuffTown" not because what he's done on wax but because of what he has accomplished in the streets, in prison and flowing on the mic. "I dont spit fiction, I spit facts. I keep it 100". Check out Phaness and his Strollin' Wreck Gang affilates as they spit there version of O*C Hiphop phrased "TuffTown Muzik".
