The phrase Dirty Mercy is strikingly ironic. The irony of a band that goes by this name might be less obvious, but its manifestations profound.
Half-formed on a film set and half-formed on the Internet—a world connected by modern technology brought together four unlikely musical partners that all similarly derive their musical influences from the past. Drawing from genres as wide ranging as Classic Rock to R&B and Soul, Dirty Mercy defies the current state of commercial music. This band packs unabashedly longer songs with warm analog tones, intense melodies, penetrating messages and improvisational live jams.
Brendan Wolfe, the front man of the band, was raised in the San Fernando Valley area of Los Angeles by hippie parents. Exposed to a variety of great music and always encouraged to express himself, he started writing melodies and lyrics at age 8. Brendan studied both Theatre and Political Science at the University of California at Berkeley before returning to Los Angeles where fate would fulfill his need for Dirty Mercy.
Frank Misceo, guitarist, is a proud father and a first generation son born to Italian parents in the suburbs of Chicago, IL. He spent his teen years locked in his room studying old Muddy Waters and T-Bone Walker records until bands like Pearl Jam and the Rolling Stones turned him on to rock n’ roll. Frank still quenches his blues thirst as an active member of the South Bay Blues Scene.
Gustavo Leon, drummer, is a native of Colombia. He brings an unmistakable international flare to the band based on his exposure to both traditional Latin & South American forms of music and his dad's extensive American jazz collection. However, he became insatiable for rock n roll after he came across the precious commodity of a Led Zeppelin album for the first time at the age of 15. Starting college at age 16, Gustavo received a degree in Political Science before attending a music conservatory in Spain.
Aaron Schwoerer, bassist, was brought up in a musical household in Minneapolis, MN where the surging music scene in the 80's served as a cause for his musical growth. He spent his teenage years driving to and from gigs throughout Minnesota. Aaron took that experience to Boston where he studied at Berklee College of Music. Fueled by his ongoing desire to challenge himself musically, Aaron came to Los Angeles, which led him to Dirty Mercy.
There is no discounting the bond of Dirty Mercy—Brendan with his presence, voice and lyrics as its heart; Frank and his uniquely rich and agile guitar as its mind; Gustavo’s diverse fusion of influences as its body; Aaron bridging the melody and rhythm as its soul.
However, something even greater than the members of Dirty Mercy makes this band breathe. A worldly, epic passion is at play.
