Dr. Helander

Dr. Helander is a Finnish bluesman, guitar player, singer and songwriter. He started his career at the late 60’s inspired by the British blues, especially by the Bluesbrakers and Peter Green. After that he was mostly influenced by the American blues and jazz artists and also other music genres. He played in a blues/rock band during 70’s, but his more professional blues career started by founding his own band, Helander Co. in 1993. Helander Co. released three albums: Big Cold Beer 1995, Smooth & Rough 1998 and Fodder 2001. The last two albums won the award for the best domestic blues record of the year in the audience poll of the national radio channel Radiomafia. Helander Co. appeared also on the Bluespower CD, which is a compilation of the live performances from the Radiomafia “Roots evening” program. In 2006 he released a CD, Freedom Music, under the name of Dr. Helander and His Medicine Men, a group consisting of top professional musicians. Dr. Helander’s current group goes under the name of Dr. Helander & His Power Drops. A number of festival and club performances for the band are due in 2009.
