Cookt's Work In Progress

About Me

I called the name of the "band" Work In Progress, because that's what it is, and so am I. Those who really know me would say "Amen" to that! The band, at least as far as these recordings are concerned, is basically, ME! I play in our church band every week, and we really do rock. But, getting people to commit to going to the studio is pretty tough to do. So, as some kind of release, so my head doesn't explode, I'm putting some ideas for songs down on my little 4-track Boss, BR-532 digital board.
I'm kind of a purist when it comes to music. I play my Paul Reed Smith, that has had the electronics modified to sound more like a classic Les Paul or a Strat, depending on the switch position, through a Fender tube amp, a Blues DeLuxe Tweed reissue with a Celestion Vintage 30 12" speaker. I use mostly Boss pedals accept for my MXR Phase 90 and my Dunlop Cry Baby (that I bought new in 1978). I don't like drum machines! And, I can't pin down any of my drummer friends long enough to get tracks out of them. So, as a result, there are no drums, yet. My buddy, Jeremy would love to lay down bass tracks. And, we will, soon!
I've been blessed with some sweet axes!!!
1978 Gibson S-1
1996 Paul Reed Smith CE-24
1997 Martin DC1E
2001 Taylor Baby
2005 Martin 00016RGTE
2006 Fender Resonator
I also recently acquired a mandolin that I'm starting to mess around with.
Believe it or not, all of thes axes (accept for the '78 S-1, which I bought new with sweat equity!) have been bought with inheritance money. I've lost both sets of grandparents and my parents, but that's a story for another day.
Music is a passion/obsession of mine. But, I feel a calling, dare I say by God, to play pure Classic Rock. I feel that today's music has too many categories. Man, I remember listening to FM back in the day when you could hear everything from John Denver to Pink Floyd to Mountain and everything in between. It was all ROCK!
So, if I ever get my album finished, you'll hear finger-style acoustic ballads, over-driven electric, dobro-bottle-neck blues, R&B, and anything else I can get recorded.
I hate to watch American Idol and hear Simon criticizing someone for not knowing their style and sticking to it. I think all you cool cats on MySpace Music pages are the antithesis of the cookie-cutter bands that record labels want to shove down our throats. You/We are what music is supposed to be.....pure! Be true to yourself. In the end, when you meet your maker, it's really all you'll have. I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4
