About Me

After a lifetime spent in the performing arts, over the past 20 years, Jason Rosen has carved an impressive niche in the American music landscape as a musician, composer, promoter, producer, director, DJ, playwright and actor. Jason started performing at a young age, appearing in the King and I on Broadway with Yul Brynner. He credits his affinity to music to the large Hispanic and Caribbean record collection of his father Leonard and to his mother's Abigail continual playing of the Beatles White Album while they made box lunches during his childhood.Acting in children's theater was Jason's first creative outlet, creating such roles as Sinbad the Sailor, the grandma in Little Red Riding Hood and the wicked witch in Hansel and Gretel, Jason honed his craft while learning the value of entertaining and reaching out to one's own community. As a teen Jason wrote and directed AIR: Adolescents in Review, a stunning all teen inspired and creative Off-Off Broadway musical that garnered tremendous critical praise and an extended run. After an academic career at Little Red Schoolhouse and Elizabeth Irwin High School, Jason went off to Hobart College. While at Hobart Jason hosted a popular radio show and became more and more enamored of music, especially rhythm and blues. Upon returning to New York City, Jason became a prominent member of an explosion of great local music in the late '80's and early '90's. Playing and collaborating with such acts and people as Living Colour, Blues Traveler, Spin Doctors and Joan Osborne, Jason was an important part of a landmark era in recent music history.Ever in search of a new sound and new influences Jason, with his wife Agnes and their then infant daughter Danica, moved to Miami. There Jason formed the band SoBe Blues that quickly began to dominate the South Beach scene, playing an infectious blend of r&b, soul and funk with latin percussion and motown horns. Jason played with such diverse luminaries as Prince, Gloria Estefan, Nestor Torres, K.C. and the Sunshine Band and Jimmy Page. SoBe Blues released one album, So Live It Hurts that captures the breezy style and heavy soul of that group, that scene, and its frontman.Getting homesick Jason, Agnes and Danica packed up moved to Harlem, USA. Here Jason formed a new band The Last Tribe which expanded on the template that SoBe Blues started, mixing in raeggae and Afro-Caribbean music. The resulting albums Urban Tribal Funk and Mofongo in Da Jungle show just how far Jason's artistry has come. You can hear and see more about Last Tribe at: http://www.lasttribenyc.com/Recently Jason put his acting shoes back on, starring and writing the soundtrack for Au Pair Chocolat. The film went on to win awards and appear at film festivals in Berlin, Seattle, New York, Los Angeles, Atlanta and Houston thanks in large part to Jason's great performance as the family patriarch and nimbly crafted soundtrack.Jason would like to thank his wife Agnes (for whom Sweet Love Tonight is dedicated) and his daughter Danica for all of their love and support over the years.
