Michael Makai is an artist by definition. No nonsense, gimmicks or manufactured talent. His distinctive Voice separates him from the rest in a market place that craves originality.
His musical roots began growing up in the tough innercity of Philadelphia. Inspired by greats like Donnie Hathaway and Daryl coley, Michael found refuge in singing gospel. "Gospel music has no hidden agenda. Just songs that come from the heart and have true meaning." He was also influenced by his urban surroundings and embraced the sounds of hip-hop artist such as the Notorious BIG and The Roots. Through these inspirations Michael crafted his unique soulful sound. "I found myself singing anywhere, anytime, and for anyone who would listen. I knew that my perseverance would payoff and my vision would gather strong support because I have never doubted myself for a minute."
Michael’s perseverance did payoff when he signed a recording contract, with then group VP215 to Dreamworks Records. "We were an r&b/hip-hop band that had a nationwide following and tons of performing experience opening up for Boyz II Men and Jon secada to name a few. But after a year and a half of preparation on the album, promotional touring, media training, radio interviews and performing in front of thousands of screaming fans, the albums release was halted by the events of "9-11" "That experience taught me a lot. I now have a better understanding and appreciation of what it takes to make a record and become an artist. But I have unfinished dreams to take care of. I now use that experience as motivation to help me reach my ultimate goal of achieving a successful solo career."
Writing songs with great melodies and intelligent lyrics represent Michael Makai's dedication to good music. His experiences have helped him write songs that will touch the old and young alike. "My target audience is anyone who has a pair of ears and loves real music," Michael reiterates.
Michael is youngest of six children and grew up in a single parent home. Raised by his mother he learned early on the sacrifices that is takes to achieve what you want in life. "If you want something bad enough, you have to give one hundred percent of yourself and push yourself to the limit. Then when youve reached that limit, you have to push even further to make certain you don't take anything for granted. You have to fight for that something in life that says who you are. Music is who I am.”
He knows no limit and doesn't comprehend the words "I can't". His goal is to work hard at writing and creating the best songs to take him to the top!
