I've been working at Studio 60 now, for 7 years. I started working their in 1997, but remained largely anonymous until 1999. I think it was obvious that my writing met a new standard as I was trying to impress Harriet. Harriet gained recognition as she received the lion's share of roles in my sketches. By 2002 I was writing the entire show. It started with a little, turned into a lot. Then turned into the whole thing. I wrote it while Danny produced it. When Wes left Danny and I were eventually made a co-executive producer, while Harriet came to be considered one of the "Big Three" cast members alongside Simon Stiles and Tom Jeter.
In 2002, I was fired by NBS chairman Jack Rudolph for my outspoken politics. My friend Danny Tripp chose to resign as a show of support for me, and we went on to respectively direct and write what would become a critically acclaimed film, Removing All Doubt. In September of 2006, I won a WGA award for the script. It was that night when Wes Mendell had his on-air meltdown, that Danny and I were convinced to return to NBS as executive producers of Studio 60.
As for my life away from the studio, I don't like to associate myself with the press. I'll go to great lengths just to stay away from them. While the shows running I tend to make my office my home, but I think this years season will be different because on June 28th I asked the woman I've been in love with for 9 years to marry me, and to my surprise she said yes. Since then I've been the happiest I've ever been. We haven't set a date yet, but that's not going to stop us. We also have a bun in the oven. And yes, it's a boy. :)
