National Suicide Day

About Me

Bass Guitarist and Vocalist Lawrence Daniel Caswell (current This Moment In Black History and former Lives Of The Saints) and Guitarist/Vocalist Jason Conrad Schafer (former Lives Of The Saints) set out in the early part of the 2000's to find the meeting place for their love of everything Neil Young, everything Bobby Womack and everything in between. In the spring of 2006 they met up with Sean M.F. Djuricic (formerly of Akron's Interfuse) who stepped in to bring a heavy hand on the drums. It was a combination of players that local critics and people around town alike said was just waiting to happen. Holed up in an abandon house in the Collinwood section of Cleveland over weekends in May and June of 2006, the trio pounded out rock n’ roll with a purpose. The three die-hard Midwesterners set out writing songs and looked forward to laying the fiery sounds down to tape.
Then Jason moved to Chicago and it was all up in the air. The solution? Marathon practices and the beauty of today's modern day pony express. For the next year, the three would take every holiday and vacation day they could, spend it crafting their songs and following through with endless emails and phone calls. 600 miles couldn't silence it. These are motherfuckers with a work ethic.
The result was first laid to tape on Christmas Eve 2006 and into the early morning hours of Christmas Day. National Suicide Day entered Zombie Proof Studios in Cleveland and recorded their 6 song EP/Demo which would float around the local area and with certain national bands over the next year and a half. Then Jason moved home to Cleveland. National Suicide Day was no longer just a band on tape, but a full fledge working band, steadily playing shows throughout the summer of 2007 and now well into 2008. They have shared the stage with a variety of sounds and notables like Constantines, Qui (David Yow of Jesus Lizard), Awesome Color, Parts & Labor, Pterodactyl, and Oakley Hall.
Over Easter weekend 2008 (are we sensing a pattern here?), National Suicide Day returned to Zombie Proof and laid down the sweat dripped cuts that will make up the working titled "Peacefield" record. From the epic "Quality Of Hurt", to the soul shake down of "The Seed" to the Applacian acoustic driven "Plagues", the record captures a full years worth of songwriting, blown speakers, broken cymbals, tone structuring and late nights spent in Ohio's ever changing Northeastern front.
