learning and drinking, respectively
fin de siecle montana, at a well lit dive bar by the tracks on e. front st. i am leaning against a cigarette vending machine, facing north and talking to my dear friend stephen. i had been sober for a year and a half. he drank, and had that night, and both of us had signed up for one too many philosophy classes that semester. in the middle of our rambling his face suddenly took on that excited/weary expression people sometimes get when they are about to spill their guts, and he tells he that what he REALLY wanted was to see Ultimate Truth. and although he was not certain, he was pretty sure that his dog, klaus, could see it.stephen denied this the next day, he couldn't remember any of it and besides would never say somthing like that. klaus was put to sleep a few years ago, and i haven't seen stephen in ages. i have never had a pet dog, much less a mystical collie you got when you were 13 and named after a bassist in a punk band. and my current pet cat has a curfew and can't see the difference between an open window and a door, so it's pretty useless to try asking him.
