I am here for Friends

About Me

I like my sox red and my states blue!!!
I enjoy hanging out with friends, but also appreciate having "couch time" to myself. I love baseball and also watch, but not follow obsessively, football. Basketball has always been background noise but its fun to go to a Celtics game once in awhile. Same for hockey.
My true love is travel...
I've visited 30 states (34 if you count layovers and states I've driven through but not stayed overnight in).
In Canada I've been to Montreal and Quebec City plus a work trip to Toronto.
My last trip of 2007 was also my first trip of 2008. I spent an afternoon in Venice before going to Malta (including the Maltese island of Gozo) for New Year's. I spent a crisp chilly day in Stuttgart, Germany on the way home. Elsewhere in Europe I've been to Barcelona, Mallorca, Munich, Prague, London, Paris, Zurich, Berlin, Rome (and its very nice nearby suburb of Frascati), Pisa, Castiglion Fiorentino, Cortona, and Florence - ok, Florence was just for lunch but I guess if I count that then I can add in Milan since I stayed there one night before my flight home. Add in stopovers and I can count Hannover, Germany (singing the Carpenters in a bar in the train station) and Brussels (train to the Airport only).
I hope the country can hang on and survive the remainder of Bush's term. I am proud of the fact that I have not missed an election no matter how small in my 20 years of eligibility and was encouraged to see the record turnouts on Super Tuesday!

My Interests

.. .. .. .. ..
Beer, baseball, travel, travel to drink beer, travel to see baseball, travel to drink beer while seeing baseball.
I also like to drink on St. Patty's Day - right, because I need an excuse:

I've made an annual pilgrimage to Munich for Oktoberfest each year since 2004

Even though I am a very picky eater I am getting more adventurous with cooking and starting to mess around with photo and film editing. Always love a fun game night with friends.

I'd like to meet:

Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass.

Music:

Locally Beat Soup, Chucklehead, Allstonians, Bim Skala Bim, Steady Earnest, Popgun 7 (all great stuff on my iPod but shows are fewer and fewer if not gone so I guess its time to hit up the Middle East or TTs to expand the horizons)
The rest of the collection matches my usual avoidance of commitment in that I can't stick to one genre...just no country! A brief scan of the CD rack will find AC DC, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Dio, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, and the Beatles. you'll also find some Tom Jones, B-52s, Madonna, along wih a variety of disco, techno, and the complete set of James Bond themes.
After reading a recent post by a friend I remembered how much I would enjoy catching some industrial - ah, Trocadero in SF, X Night at Axis, sure I'm getting old but what the heck - its only a number!

Movies:

Airplane will remain the funniest movie ever followed very closely by The Princess Bride. I like a lot of Indie films (if you like the tacky sci-fi from the 50s you need to check out The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra) and love the sarcastic and alcoholic humor of Arthur
The entire original non-director's cut Star Wars trilogy.
The Boondock Saints, Little Miss Sunshine, and Stranger Than Fiction are some flicks I have seen recently that I loved.
More generically - anything Parker Posey is in except Superman Returns rocks, movies by Mel Brooks and Christopher Guest, cheesy disaster flicks, and of course Bond, James Bond - Connery, Craig, Moore, Brosnan, Dalton in that order

Television:

MXC on SpikeTV is very odd but hysterical. Heroes is way groovy - darn writer's strike! Without a doubt Family Guy is my favorite show and thus here is my favorite Family Guy clip:
Also a big fan of The Daily Show, Countdown with Keith Olberman, Top Chef, America's Test Kitchen, most foodTV shows, CNN, the Weather Channel.

Books:

MySpace Air Refreshener

Heroes:

The Pilots that fly me places:

NBA, Help Me Understand...

Okay, I get the late start times - especially since there is a west coast team in the finals - but I don't understand the methodology behind the NBA Finals schedule.  There are two days off in be...

Top Chef

I suppose the fun part of reality TV is the emotion - good or bad - when someone is eliminated.  Still, I was simply annoyed when ultra-bitch Lisa remains.  Not that Spike is a saint - and h...

Reality TV

I'm not big into reality TV but I have a couple of shows I tune into regularly. American Idol:  I actually watched a whole season - made possible by my friends at Comcast DVR.  Happy for Dav...

Sox 1 Yanks 4

One down, at least 17 to go this year with these two.  I kind of expected to lose this one but moreso because I wasn't sure what to expect from Buchholz.  Despite getting into some...

Red Sox Meet Star Trek?

What is it about bleeps, blips, and swooshes that make watching a sporting event on TV more exciting? FOX seemed to pioneer it and ESPN has added a lot more noise during their MLB coverage.  Now ...

Return of Community Auditions - good (only if they use the same theme song) Return of New Kids on the Block - bad (unless of course they...no, wait, just bad) Return of Baseball - exhausting!  Wh...

Ahhhhhh...

that’s better. Baseball is back. As if mega-morons Miller and Morgan weren’t annoying enough, shithead Bush had to join them in the booth.  He even sounds like a clueless idiot on a t...

I watch very little basketball but seeing as how its a big ass game I've got it going while I soften my brain further staring at my computer screen.  If I closed my eyes and didn't know better I...
