About Me

Here is a little story that must be told [I think scratched it was better]. The whole story started in 1995, when K-lé heard a first beat; grown up with Soul & Funk music, he became addicted to hip hop music. Very quickly he wanted to be part of the movement and started painting graffiti's everywhere in his hometown Strasbourg.A few years later in 1999 he had already a huge record collection and an old turntable [of course you couldn't scratch on it, it was just a piece of shit!!!], he decided to buy 2 dusty 1200's and a mixer. He started scratching and beatjuggling and as his notoriety grew up he started organizing and DJing at several parties in France and Germany . In 2002 he was part of many DJ groups, but it was in 2004, has he met COSTO DU MIC , a MC who was part of hip hop crew Artizanal that he discovered his sense for producing beats. He entered studios and recorded his first mixtape "Streetly 4 my Soulbrothers" which became in a few months an underground classic mixtape. The magic of this tape was based on his skills mixing Soul & Hip Hop underground tracks with remixes of well known artists. Then K-lé travelled to Spain, Italy and Switzerland where he recorded live “new & old school parties&rdquo ; 2005 was the year he decided to move to New York City , the city where it all started. Over there he helped world most famous DJ competition "DMC" organizing the 2005 and 2006 US tour . In his crib in Brooklyn he recorded his first instrumental album "The Jazz Sessions" by producing tracks sampling small parts of rare old records he was digging for in dusty record shops around the US [No!! he didn't give me addresses, that are his fucking confidential part!!!].In 2006 he also released the mixtape "Concrete Jungle" with his friends from Queens KRAZIE CHARLEZ and SUB-FIELD . According to K, SUB-FIELD and KRAZIE CHARLEZ are 2 amazing DJs/ producers, maybe some of the best in the NYC underground circuit. In 2007, DJ K-lé came back to Paris, France, where he started working for various music labels. He also started spreading his knowledge on hip hop music, by being a journalist for France N_1 Hip Hop radio Generations 88.2 and associative webzine Urban You Vox so as being a columnist for hip hop mag 90bpm.com .As his love for REAL hip hop music never stopped, he started opening his own record label, Souldiers inc with his friend COSTO. K started producing all the instrumentals for COSTO's new album . K-lé says “COSTO is the best French rapper I ever heard, that guy can record a whole album in just one shot, he is the best lyricist in the French rap game “.There first track “Branche les jacks” made a buzz in the DJ circuit. 2008 DJ K-lé & COSTO DU MIC dropped their first EP "Premiere opus". On this record you can find the emotional single"Trop amertume", the hardcore track "Trahison" or the more personal song "J'croque la vie". Also available on this CD the track "Jeunesse VS. gouvernement" which is a Ghetto Hymns dedicated to french president. Also in 2008 K-lé with his friends Sidy, Big Ad, RastaIam and John launched the Hip Hop website www.streetblogger.fr. It s a new type of webmagazine "we created streetblogger to give the speech back to the streets. Journalists don't earn Hip Hop, it is earned by the streets" says K-lé. Streetblogger is actually the first Hip Hop journalist crew including photographers, video directors, marketing responsibles, DJs, B-boys, graffiti artists and MCs. The webzine was very well received by the french Hip Hop community. DJ K-lé by opening his own record label, producing tracks for several artists, travelling in France, Germany, Switzerland, Spain, Italy, UK and the US, has definitely become a great DJ in the underground scene and as he says “ As long as hip hop lives, I will be digging for records, I just love music” .Watch out for COSTO DU MIC & DJ K-lé first album coming soon.
