Punta Gorda's resident violin maker and master luthier has finally finished his very own CD project "Liars, Crooks & Felons". With a little help from local bands Wingnut Flounder, Off The Beaten Path and some other nefarious Florida talent, it was great fun. -- And it's all for a good cause, the profits going to Fr. Bart at St Mary's of the Angels in New Orleans. You can buy the CD from CD Baby (http://cdbaby.com/cd/rjmalloy) or at your favorite online download store.
This has truely been a cooperative effort among musicians both famous and infamous. The joy has come from the crossing of paths
and the spirit that has been exchanged to make all of this possible.
Thanks to Greg Trooper (www.gregtrooper.com and myspace.com/gregtrooper) for "Lonesome" and "Dreaming Blues", which we then butchered into "Drinking Blues" for which Greg will likely kick my ass, but he'll have to catch me first.
Michael O'Connor (www.michaeloconnormusic.com) sent us his incredible "Getaway Car" which we then colored with an accordian riff. If he's going to kick my ass, he'll have to get behind Greg.
Greg's got a new CD, "Backshop Live" and Michael has just released his CD, "Giants From a Sleepy Town". Both of these guys donated their royalties to the project. Thank you guys.
Since John Prine kicked my ass many years ago at the Earl in Old Town, I was faithful to his arrangements of "Hello" and "Home Town". Now Paul Thorn (www.paulthorn.com), he's not someone to mess with. His "Things Left Undone" is certified as totally true to Billy Maddox's original, except I sing it better. (Now I'm really screwed.) Check out Paul's "So Far So Good Live" at his website. We are in deeply your debt.
One of my original musical influences, Tom Rush inspired us with his version of "Urge for Going" and Joni Mitchell passed us the rights for the project. If I wasn't in such awe of speaking with them, I would probably say something witty here, but don't hold your breath.
And finally, extra special thanks goes to Debbie Baker, who taught me that the blues and forgiveness can make for some mighty powerful and passionate music.
We want to say thank you to Curtis and Rich at DiscMasters (www.discmasters.com) for incredible service for the project. Not only did they step up to a rushed schedule and our ability to change things on the fly, they gave us a great price (threw in some extras pro bono) without skimping on the quality of the product. I can't imagine ever doing another CD without them. Call and talk to them at 888-430-3472.
And finally, you ever get really bored online, visit Darkwood Music at www.darkwoodmusic.com and see our instruments and our Punta Gorda shop. (Ok, I know, the new site isn't up yet, but it will be. No, really it will!)
