Simon Bish
You Get To Live A Few Good Days
(Pop Noise Records)Fine gentle indie-pop from Simon Bish, who previously sang in Thrilled Skinny, the John Peel-favoured indie-punk-poppers from the early ‘90s. More recently, Mr Bish has been fronting the Exeter-based four-piece, Noise Annoys Simon, as well as running his own label, Pop Noise Records. On this, his solo debut, he keeps up his melodic vocal style, but with a more laidback sound, which is mainly acoustic with drums, cello, acoustic guitar and melodica. In his own words, it’s “pop-soaked melancholic acoustic lo-fi indie rock with delicate vocals and gently strummed guitar.†Amen to that. What’s there not to like?Simon Bish 'Butterly Girl EP' Reviews...
The butterfly is always the easiest and most admired insect to ingest the world of indie rock/pop/whatever with great reason. A butterfly begins its stages as just another creepy, crawly tree dweller before it bursts into the world as a multi-colored miracle floating amidst the very trees it once depended upon to slowly push its existence around. Cue the beautiful girl that strikes her heart and makes an obvious comparison, and you have British songwriter Simon Bish and his wonderfully derived song “Butterfly Girlâ€. Bish’s tremendously soft and sweet pop melody is at its most tender moments when the violins join the chorus from the fires of simplistic hell and whirl the Brit pop goodness faster than the wings of a, well….butterfly!
“Butterfly Girl†is now available on Simon Bish’s latest EP, the aptly titled Butterfly Girl EP. You will also find this track on his debut solo album You Get To Live A Few Good Days, coming soon from his label Pop Noise Records.
Review by Ron Trembath FensePost The Indie Music Biog
For Exeter-based indie-pop dreamer, Simon Bish, it’s business as usual with a 4-track EP through his own Pop Noise imprint. The title song, Butterfly Girl is a perfect slice of summery pop, paving the way for his debut solo set, out soon. Simon’s regular band, Noise Annoys Simon and the rest of his label-mates are the South West’s most criminally underrated musicians. There’s a whole world of magnificent and highly-collectable material to get addicted to, so I strongly recommend you check out the works of Mr Bish and the rest of his gang right at Pop Noise Records....Review by Arash Torabi 247 Magazne
Simon Bish 'Heart Shape Sky' single reviews...Simon Bish, the man behind Pop Noise Records from what I understand. This single from what I understand is a taster to an upcoming full length.Track one is a song called 'Heart Shape Sky' is a nice melodic acoustic number, a sort of folk pop sound.Track two is a song called 'Honey Hair' and features an electric guitar this time and as such sounds a little more gritty, once again though remaining quite melodic. So to sum up, these are two really cool melodic pop songs, sure they don't break any new ground, but really who cares. There just really cool songs that will get stuck in your head. Check them out...

Simon Bish - "Heart Shape Sky EP" cdep (Pop Noise)
Simon is also in Noise Annoys Simon, and is/was involved with most of the other bands on his label, Pop Noise. So, like Simon Goalpost was a scruffy, lo-fi version of the already scruffy Thrilled Skinny, the two songs on this single sound sort of like a lo-fi version of his current band (who are one of my current favorites, by the way). These songs have that same TFC/Monograph style at heart, but sound closer to something like Another Sunny Day (particularly the sweet, but somewhat fey title track). The b-side, "Honey Hair", could've used some extra instrumentation (both songs are essentially just vocals and guitar), but it's not a bad tune on its own.
