L.E.T.A.L’s history begins in mid-2002, in the city of Belo Horizonte (the famous Brazilian Rock capital from where emerged renowned international bands such as Sepultura, Overdose and Sarcofago), when G. Marcus and Arthur Leonel were introduced one to the other by common friends. Due to the passion for music that they shared (especially for Rock 'n' Roll), they joined other friends to start up a Heavy Metal band. The embryo of L.E.T.A.L was born then.
In its first year the band performed several shows and participated in some "battle of bands†festivals. It’s worth remembering that in their first festival the lead singer G. Marcus was elected by the jury (which was formed by recognized musicians of our local scene like Reginaldo Silva, from the band Kamikaze) as the event‘s best musician. Inevitably, the group had to pass through line-up changes, only stabilizing in the year of 2004, with G. Marcus on vocals, Arthur Leonel on guitars, Filipe Sartoreto on bass and Ricardo Patricio on drums. It was during that time that they started to search for a more characteristic sound. They took part in more festivals and once again Marcus was bestowed with the best musician award.
The milestone of this line-up is the band’s first composition – a song called Bio Hazard - created by Filipe Sartoreto from a lyric written by Marcus, in order to sign up for another “battle of bandsâ€. Thanks to the striking presentation and to the band’s newest song (which was decisive in their victory), L.E.T.A.L became the winner of the competition, elected by the judges as the best band, also being the most voted group by the audience. The reward for that victory granted the band its first recording session.
With the musicians willing to invest more in their own compositions, the famous "musical differences" arose and determined the departure of the drummer Ricardo Patricio. Without a drummer, L.E.T.A.L decreased its activities and the musicians began to devote themselves to parallel projects. Finally the bassist Filipe Sartoreto also ended up leaving the band.
In 2006, already with the drummer Helder "Machine" Monteiro in the band (an old friend who had just left his old band), Marcus and Leonel began the composition of new songs, bearing in mind the development of a sound that could balance the weight of Thrash Metal with a typically Brazilian groove, mixing into our heavy Rock music the natural swing of our own latin roots.
Due to an occasional meeting of Filipe Sartoreto with Marcus and Leonel, the former bassist started approaching to the duo again, after almost a year without contacts. Little by little they rebuilt their old partnership and thus Sartoreto took control again of the band bass and helped them with their compositions. At the end of that same year the band entered the studio to begin the recording of its first 100% authorial work, the "Electric Sound : Personal Fury" EP. Already in 2007, while still recording the EP, L.E.T.A.L came back to stages playing some gigs in Belo Horizonte, presenting to the public their new work, being very well received and accepted.
At the end of 2007, after several difficulties and problems related to the recording and mixing of their songs, the group finishes the work with the help of the producer Felipe Lisciel. "Electric Sound : Personal Fury" has come to show to the headbanger audiences the Groove Thrash Metal style developed by L.E.T.A.L.
Electric Sound : Personal FuryThis is the first L.E.T.A.L’s 100% authorial work, a record conceived in a totally independent form and made in the most sincere possible way, designed without major technical resources or large amounts of production, resembling more of an album pre-production than an album itself. In it, has been assembled the sound and fury of almost two years of work through five songs that represent the purest fusion of the good ‘n’ old Thrash Metal with a specific groove, of typically Brazilian origin, driven by skillfully worked instrumental parts, powerful vocals and the use of Brazilian percussions. Its lyrics approach subjects such as nonconformity, indignation and personal, existential, social and political problems and dilemmas.
The band hopes to conquer through this effort, the support and the conditions they need to improve their work in all possible aspects, releasing in a not very distant future the first L.E.T.A.L's full-length album.
Currently the band is studying new opportunities and potential projects and is opened to partnerships, criticism and varied proposals of work, recording and touring.
